I have a '77 911S that has been sitting for years and I have it back on the road now. A new clutch was installed when the motor was out and the transmission seams to work ok but on my 2nd day of driving it the car seams to lock up in reverse. I let out the clutch and it's almost like the emergency break is on and there is a faint clunking. When I put in first to go forward it does the same thing. After a few tries it clears up. Cold it be the transmission or a sticky caliper? I don’t know, I just wanted to here is anyone else has had that problem.
One other question, my car only has power over 3500 RPM’s. Is this a timing issue? It had been sitting for 4 years and I’ve only put 200 miles on it since but its seams like if I have good power at 3500 I should have a little at 2000 RPM but I don’t. P.S. What is a fair price for setting the timing? Thanks for any input!

superqueso,
Your transmission sounds like it is going into 2 gears at once. Don't force this by continuing to let the clutch out - you will break something. The fix for the transmission is the same as fixing your timing - if you're in Seattle, call http://www.johnwalkersworkshop.com/ 206.789.6800 7613 Greenwood Ave. N. Seattle, WA

From all that I have read about Mr J Walker he is worth twice whatever he charges. I wish he could rebuild my tranny over the internet!

I did contact John Walker and he is 2 weeks out. He referred me to Gerber Motor sports, has anyone used them before?

Almost nobody ever touches my cars but me. One of the very few exceptions is John. For a variety of reasons. Experience. Wisdom. Smarts. Common sense. Work ethic.
John does a LOT more to his customers' cars than he charges for. Put another way, you pay X, and you get 2X worth of care and service. I'd bet he could fix this car blindfolded. Personally, I think the stickiness is brakes. And I think issues like timing are simple tuneup things. Stuff John finds immediately.
