There are also trade-offs between better aerodynamics and lower wt. ...

As suggested, search and read the Steve Wong chip info- I have one and couldn't be happier with it- no problems i know of- better idle, power, no smog passing issue, still great fuel mileage- full range of power- i can drive in los angeles traffic happily now! yeah.

Put SSI's, sport exhaust, Steve Wong chip, larger throttle body (buy a spare and get it bored out & keep stock one off to one side)....this will all add up and it easily reversible. Might all add up to about 15-20hp which is a 10% increase.

Everybody talks about the M491 being rare and collectable cars - I personally think they are great track cars (and great over all cars) - room for bigger wheels and wider track - and they have the turbo brakes. In reality though - they typically go for a little over the price of a decent brake upgrade and flare job... $3-$5,000 over a "normal" 3.2. If they were that special and rare - I would expect much more than that. This is just my opinion...

It's your car - and again it looks well sorted - but do what you want with it. The chip and exhaust and very reversable - after that it starts getting a little more slippery. I think a few contributors to this thread can attest to that...

Being the owner of a M491 I am biased. I did the SW chip, Euro premuffler and Dansk sport exhaust. These mods really opened it upand made a great increase in drivability and power.

I felt guilty about doing any further mods or tracking the car since it is a low milage and pristine example of a M491 Turbolook. I think the car is special in the fact that it has all the running gear of a turbo...and oh those brakes!

My solution for this dilemma was to buy a clean SC and turn it into a track rat.

Good Luck and no matter what enjoy your car and drive it hard.

I liked the turbo look for all the body and suspension upgrades, but I love those sport seats. I am not too sure if I overpaid, spent $25,000 on the car, had to do some basic maintenance, but it has original paint and 76K miles

That's a great price...

samsnead, you have all of the factory goodies. Those sport seats are awesome ( I have em on my car). I doubt you overpaid, since your car is really clean. You have a great car.
