Flipping wipers to rest on passenger side
Must motor be changed, or is it a matter of reversing wiring? How many hours to do the job/what might I expect to have my mechanic do it?

just a matter of loosening the nut on the rotating lever that's attached to the motor and repositioning it 180°. accessable after removing the front fresh air blower assembly, or if you're nimble, through the speedo hole in the dash. loosen nut a couple of turns, pry up on the lever with a screwdriver to get it loose, then swing the wipers over and retighten the nut. be sure the lever moved a full 180° in the process. you can adjust it with your fingers. best to leave the arms off until you're sure it will park properly, so you don't run the wipers over your hood.

You also have to bend the arm like the original only the opposite direction. A soft jawed vise works fine for that

Much easier to go through the dash gauge openings, pop out the clock and speedo, unbolt the soft bracket that supports the motor which is in the way to the wiper arm and the nut, undo nut and reposition the arm.
I did this the night after I bought the car. I couldn't take the little arm off the motor shaft, it was on really tight, so I used a plier to push it up and accidentaly hit the wiper switch. The plier got jammed between frame and the arm, and what do you know, the motor didn't wanna turn backwards. I was able to get it out eventually around sunrise and park the wipers on the other side. I moved it back to the original position a couple days later, because the wipers parked neatly on the passenger side wouldn't cover the lower part of the windshield on the driver side where they're really needed. Good luck, and don't make the same mistake. ![]()

Ditto on working through the gauge openings. Position a light so you can see what you're working with under there. You will have to re-bend the inboard wiper arm.

Ahh, Wayne's famous project #69!
Save yourself time and trouble: DON'T DO IT. The factory moved the wipers in front of the driver for a REASON. The reason is, when you shut off the wipers and they park on the opposite side of the windshield, all the slush and water and dirt they move runs up in the driver's face. By parking them in front of the driver, that crap runs off to the SIDE of the car where it should go. People who claim "they interfere with my line of vision" should instead install the Yellow Pages on the driver's seat so that doesn't happen. ![]()

Wiper reversal is not a permanent thing. If you don't like them parking on the right, change them back to the original position. I don't get caught in the rain very often and very much like the improved view from the driver's seat.

Enjoy this forum not only for the technical brilliance but also because of the frequently inspired language. As an example in this thread by John Walker - fell of my chair laughing. Could see before me the scene described : "...so you don´t run the wipers over your hood."

John Cramer is right (again!) and furthermore it is not necessary to go through all the trouble, instead simply remove the wipers and reposition them to a more "parked position" They are attached by a 10mm nut onto a splined shaft so just move them clockwise a few splines till they are resting lower, re-tighten the nut and you are good to go.

Moving the wipers to the other side thing sounds like something our ricer/VW friends would do. Goes along with the rally lighting and fart can exhaust.

Back when I had my 911 I reversed the wipers. Looked factory when finished. I'm 6'2" so it wasn't a matter of me being too short to see, but it did open up the vision a tad, but mostly just right down the nose of the car.
I can provide one noticable improvement that I noted. Before I parked them on the right when I got stuck driving in misty, foggy weather I would get a weird spot of moisture right in the middle of my line of site. After I moved the wipers the driver's side would stay clear and the passenger's side would get the weird spot. I never had a problem with water or grunge running up the windshield on the driver's side and causing a problem after the parking. To each his own. Ricey would be having them park in the vertical position on the windshield instead of horizontal. Ricey would be plastic brightly colored double or triple blades. Ricey would be clear blades with LED's on them.

ditto on the spot in the middle of your vision the wiper sits in a very curved part of the window and will not straighten back out so you get this fog spot right where you normally look. i have been thinking of parking the wipers on the other side on both of my cars for that reason just haven't done it yet
