engine install
I had the clutch replaced on my 88 930. I recently noticed that the shelf behind the
jump seats (the shelf in which the rear speakers are housed) does not fit snuggly against the lower portion of the rear windshield. Is it possible that when the engine was reinstalled that it bumped/moved the rear shelf? I do know that the engine is slightly mis aligned because the rear hood hinge rubs agianst the air filter housing. I was told that "they all rub!#%#!" Your thoughts?? Thanks. |

I would have to say it is highly unlikely that the(correct) reinstall of the engine could have caused such a mis-allignment.
Under the shelf is a rubber padding, and under that is the sheetmetal which is the interior portion of the upper engine compartment. Unless the mechanics did a horribly poor and incorrect re-install, I'd look elsewhere. As for the decklid hinges. If they did not rub before the mechanical work, they shouldn't rub after the mechanical work commenced. I've owned many, none of them had hinges that rubbed. Best of luck. Rich |

I assume you are talking about the shelf on the interior of the car, where the speakers are housed.
If this is the case, then it is not really possible that the engine reinstall, by itself, could have caused the misalignment. There is solid metal between the engine compartment and the interior of the car! No matter what they did in reinstalling the engine, it could not have possibly moved the interior panel. The only way they could have done it is if they were doing some other work in the interior of the car. You'd have to ask them. Brian |

When our clutch was done several years ago and this past winter when the topend was done, at no time did the mechanic do anything inside the car. Sounds like these guys were pulling out a drug cache or something? The panel to get to the shift linkage is under the carpet on the floor in front of the rear seat and unless they replaced the bushings it wouldn't even be opened. You might want to crawl under the car as the air cleaner shouldn't hit or even come close to the hinges and it sounds like the engine is cocked to one side or the mounts were put in wrong since they develop a set or twist and have to be put back the same way they came out, especially on Turbos.
