Another project in the bag!!!

One of the small things that has irritated me ever since I got my SC was the bad job the PO had done on trying to repaint the black round the side windows. I should have had them done when the car was in the body shop for new paint but completely forgot about it (which added to the aggravation! Nice new paint and crappy window frames!!!).

So last weekend I decided to do something about it. Planed my attack and got all the parts and tools required to do the job. My plan was always to strip the old crappy paint and then paint them again, but when I striped the paint and discovered the nice stuff the PO had tried to cover up, my plans were changed. Here is the end results, and I am really happy with how it turned out - I think it sets off nicely against the rims

I have been considering getting some of those nice RUF mirrors to go with the rims. Is that the style you are talking about??

I personally do not think those mirrors would lokk good on your car, unless you're planning other kits to continue to modify her.

I would probably agree with you on that one. I must admit that I do not really like the flag mirrors, but can not think what else would look good on my car
Maybe a nice pair of 993 mirrors?? I also really like the 934 mirrors, but they will probably not look to good on my car either!?!

with the Ruf wheels, the Ruf mirrors would look great. Then one day you could upgrade front and rear bumpers to CTR style. =o) It's your car so do as you please and enjoy it.

Ed, I like the door handles, not sure about the headlight trim rings.

k9handler, I see you are in to MTN Biking. that is cool. I have not been in a race since last year. Stockholm Marathon took all my attention for this year, but I hope to enter a race or two later this year

Those were 7/8 X 16's, now running Kinesis 17's. Bought'em chromed, and I did the painting.

So what did you actually do to strip the black annodising back to metal? did you wax or something over the bare metal so it doesn't get dull?

I'm interested in doing the same thing to my car.

It was a long and painful project dude!! I did it by hand using wet and dry paper. Started with really corse grit and got finer and finer, finished off with wire wool with metal polish.

Now I treat it the same way as I do the edge of my rims that are the same. Every month treat with metal polish, and periodically do the Porsche recommended Vaseline treatment.

So far it has kept up...

Vaseline treatment???. I love my P-car ,but we do not have that kind of relationship

But IMHO all trim should be black or chrome not a combination; also, you need to lower the car "some" to improve the stance.

Yes, OK, thank you for the sarcasm dude. Do a search here for Vaseline and fuch, you will see that Porsche recommends treating your rims with Vaseline.

I am slowly getting there, one project at a time. I might paint the trim black again, but for now they look 100 times better then they did with the crappy paint job the PO did.
As for lowering the car, I will do that as well at some point, but I am after function more than look, and I have already found that I am getting rubbing on very hard turns. I will have to do the suspension work first, and then is not a current priority on my project list.

Hey Pål, great tip about the Vaseline on the Fuchs ! I was just trying to figure out what to use - they are really getting filthy.

And I got plenty Vaseline at home...

Well, actually its left over from my former spouse. In spite of all, there are still a few things I miss about her....
