Think yer a tuner? Predict the dyno result!

So here's the challenge... I'm going to spend Friday afternoon at the dyno shop with my newly rebuilt 82 SC with a 930 engine. Guess what the peak rear wheel horsepower and torque levels we'll see. Winner gets a choice of prizes:

1) totally stock 930 wastegate spring (~.8 bar) or
2) rear window defroster relay (I've got a cabriolet )

Winner must claim prize within 200 years of contest ending. Shipping not included. Employees of Carolina AutoMasters Dyno shop not eligible for contest. Batteries extra.

Some information to guide your guesses:

- Dynojet dyno
- 1978 3.3 930 engine
- reused the 930 pistons and cylinders
- an Ollie's line-bored shuffle-pinned case
- ARP head studs and rod bolts
- twin-plugged, ported, polished & flowed heads
- full balancing
- 8:1 compression ratio
- 964 cams
- 3.2 Carrera intake
- 50# fuel injectors (attention junior tuners, this is the wild card)
- single Bosch front mounted fuel pump (unknown fuel pressure)
- K27-7200 turbo
- GoingSuperFast full-bay intercooler
- B&B headers
- twin EDIS-6 ignition controllers and coil packs
- NGK Iridium spark plugs (BKR7EIX)
- Megasquirt II v 3.0 ECU controlling fuel and spark
- front fender mounted 36 row oil cooler w/fan
- 1 bar peak boost in third gear
- straight-thru muffler - 3" outlet
- 915 transmission
- cool collar (ok, I made that part up just to see if you're still with me)

I'm scheduled for 2:00 pm tomorrow and assuming "bad things" don't happen, I'll post the results tomorrow night. You have until then to enter the contest. Let the games begin!

First off I think you're going to need more cooling...

My guess on the Dynojet you'll be at 375 at the rear wheels.

I say 400RWHP. BTW, with your EDIS setup, how did you fit the 36-1 tooth wheel on your setup?

Nice setup! I don't consider myself a turner, but I'll pull some numbers out of the hat... 450 at the wheel? Probably low balled it. Good luck at the dyno.

387.2 peak hp at 6500rpm
362.0 peak torque at 3275rpm

Is this like the Price is Right - highest without going over?

Nice spec sheet.

Do you say the size of the motor? Is it a 3.3L. And what dyno are you running it on. It makes a hugh diff.

1fastredsc - Mike, for the EDIS trigger I picked up the pulley with the VR wheel from Albert at goingsuperfast. Here's a pic:

Brendon, let's not use the Price is Right rules, closest wins whether you're above or below. As you can tell, this is just for fun. Anyone can race dyno sheets but it takes real guts to win at the track And just so you know, since I'm more of a wrench type and the car is a cabriolet, I race dyno sheets

Randywebb, have you been out partaking at the Country Fair? What the heck is 268 PS? By the way, Marianne and I once saw the Flying Karamozov Brothers lead a totally nude marching band out of the Grove at the Country Fair (early 80's - no joke). Come to think of it, that was the last time I saw a totally nude marching band...

Here's another pic to help increase the accuracy of folks guesses (the Speed Yellow paint is worth at least 2.7 horsepower and 4 ft/lbs of torque, right?).

Just to give you an idea.

http://media.ams-evo8.com/videos/amsmisc/PorscheDynoRun.wmv

This is @ 16 psi but the intercooler was heatsoaked so I lost about 10-15rwhp

Yeah, I think you're right (about the trans). Nice video. You've got a real monster there.

I had the 915, when the car was making 360rwhp and it took 3 months before she blew.

Now I have a 930 short bellhousing trans, just changed the clutch disk and added more clamping force to the pressure plate.

We should be going to the dyno again- looking for 550+rwhp.

There are many factors, to gaining hp, first is tuning, fuel, turbo, intercooler and headers.

Quality of the product.(will it last?)

Anyhow, good luck.

Thanks mppickett, i didn't know anyone made the 36-1 wheel for the 911. I think that the final straw in deciding to use an EDIS module and coils for my MSNS-E setup. thanks again
