Heater lever operation/question

Hello, I have a '76 911 Targa w/78 3L engine. There is a heater blower motor on left side of engine compartment. There is one heater lever between front seats which seems to control both heater flaps. The blower seems to be wired to run when engine is running. I am told the blower should only operate when the heater lever is in the up position. I think I need a lever setup from a '78. Can anyone describe what I should be looking for. Any help will be appreciated.

I own a 78 SC with a 3.0 L and blower motor on left. My vehicle has two levers. The blower motor is set up to come on when either lever is raised. There is a switch on both levers that turns the blower motor on.

If your lever does not have some type of switch to turn the blower on, you may have to install one on the console.

I thought there was a lug on the switch that the ground from the blower connected to and when the lever was pulled up it completed the circuit and the fan ran? This was the standard setup for most air cooled engine cars until the electronic type of heater controls came along. There should be a wire in the tunnel close to the lever just laying there? Good luck.
