Paul I responded in your other thread. I think you'll be fine. I bet the valve cover gasket is fine too.

other than the oil leak it looks like great day out.

This car reminds me of the Edo Competition car from a few years back.

I thought the car was just way over the top, that is why I took the photo. Even the windows were tinted yellow. And then there was this crazy exhaust system!!

Your oil might be coming from the vent or because you "overfilled" the tank in the first place...all mentioned in other threads for details.....

here's more to chew on--> Hard right turn smoke

Paul,

How is your SC idling since the track day? I had a similar experience at the track last October. All of a sudden the car was smoking badly. I found oil all over the top and bottom side of the tins on the left side. Oil was dripping onto the header pipes and causing the smoke. I found that the chain ramp pin had fallen out of its mount in the chain housing leaving a perfect 8mm hole. It would only leak (spray) at higher revs under load. Because of the hole in the engine, the idle was a little rough too. I pulled the sump plate on the case and found the pin laying in there. I epoxied back into place and so far it is holding fine. BTW, nice car. Good luck

That is very interesting Turborat. I did not really take note of the idle on the way home, but directly after the second run it was a bit rough - actually lower than usual.
What would be the quickest way for me to see if the pin has come out? would it be to just pull the chain tension covers and have a look?

Paul,

Here is a picture of the left side chain housing. On the outside of the case you can see the two dark spots near the bottom. This is the epoxy that holds the pins in place. On the inside of the case you can see the pins. They are the short steel pins. Look just aft of the #1 header pipe and you will see a hole through the case if the pin has fallen out.

What I found was the engine idled just like it does when the oil cap is removed.

Thank you. I will have a look at that as well. Hmmmm, my car has never changed how it idles when I remove the oil cap - should it?!?

Yes. The idle speed will drop with a slight stumble when the oil cap is removed from the oil tank. Broken vent hoses from the oil tank to engine and CIS will cause a similar symptom. Given that the oil leak is on the opposite side of the engine from the hoses and tank, I do not think your problem is there.

So, if at the moment my idle does not drop or change, does this indicate another problem somewhere I should look for?? And if so, where should I start??

If the pin has fallen out of the chain housing as I suspect, the hole it leaves would be large enough to cause the idle issue (think of it as vacuum leak).

The hoses mentioned in my previous post would also cause the idle issue, but the oil leak is on the other side of the engine.

Check the left side chain housing area real good. I think the idle issue and the oil leak are directly related to each other and you will find the problem there.

Ah, the track must be the Ahvenisto.

Well, Hämeenlinna is about 280km from here..gotta check our timetable because we have a 4 month old baby, it might be a bit difficult to come there, would have take 2 cars...

But gotta check

Ps: motopark would be 40km from here.

This may have been pointed out already, but could the o-ring on the engine mounted thermostat be leaking? Mine pooled oil back there and smoked until I replaced this...
