Idleing fast when hot

my 88 carrera idles around 1100 rpm when cold , but goes to 1800 rpm when hot. where should I start looking.

It sounds like your aux.air reg. is not working. Check the power to the reg. first, and then remove the reg. when the engine is cold. Supply power to the reg. and check the valve inside. It sould close within 1 min.

I don't think an 88 Carrera has an aux. air regulator unless you are referring to the idle air contol valve or IAC for short.

The DME tells the IAC what the idle rpm should be if the DME knows that the throttle is shut. It may not know it's shut if the idle contact on the throttle is out of adjustment.
