longhood barn find

Well, not quite a barn, but sometimes you get lucky. I own and rent some warehouses here in central FL. I had a tenant get a couple months behind in his rent, so I received one of his stored items as payment (it was a friendly transaction, by the way--title and all).

The good news; it’s a 1973.5 T, with what appears to be the original 2.4 CIS motor and steelies with matching hubcaps. It was repainted 3-5 years ago and never put back together…and I suspect it hasn’t run since. Externally, it’s got nearly everything there; lights, bumpers, etc.

The bad news; it’s in pretty rough shape. It’s had pan repairs, but not great ones. It’s on the 3rd color; originally Lime Green 226, then Guards Red (of course), now it looks like Arena Red or something similar. But the body prep work was lousy, especially the doors. I haven’t put it on my lift yet, but I suspect that it had significant body repair to the left front in the past. The interior is a disaster, with even a residual rodent nest (not from my warehouse, I hope!) Mechanically, who knows?

After I sold my ’72 earlier this year, I have been hoping to get another track car sometime. This is a LONG-range project, but I think I’ve found it.

If you wanted a project, I think you've found it. Good luck tearing into, cleaning and restoring/modifying/whatever to it.

$25,000. minimum to restore. It will have to be a labor love, not a financial decision.

Very cool, bring her back to Lime green. I see you got your hands full there, mechanical's are tough enough for me to handle, I'd have to be alot younger to dive into the structural end of things Good luck and congratulations, excellent trade for rental warehouse space, I bet that was not in the rental agreement.

Thanks for all the encouragement. Although it would be cool to restore it to stock or "enhanced", I already have a great street 911. And with other priorities looming and today'$ bu$ine$$ climate, I am a realist.

Long range, I'm hoping to turn it into a DE/vintage racing track toy. Maybe an RS look, maybe an lwb 911R look, I don't know. Way too early to figure that out.

But it's gonna be fun

I have to admit, this was a little painful to find today.

but at least the interior is in nice shape.

tough call now on storing and restoring this 72, selling it to someone who will now, or cutting it up as donor metal for the S.

Hey Tim,
Congrats on a great find.
Della is doing well. What will you name the 73.5?

R, RS.....it's hard to say which way I'm heading with it, but it will have a cage and be very light. And I have these Webers on my shelf gathering dust.

Peter, glad to hear Della's enjoying life of the left coast. No name for this one yet......

Definitely get that car back to its lime green glory as the factory built it. It's your density, er, destiny.

Weird as it sounds but is that the same car????

The last interior photo looks like a targa to me yet your first pic is a coupe.
What gives?

Mike

It looks like a targa because it is a targa.....a totally different car.

Shaun posted a couple of pics of rust in his own car (a targa) to show s2per
