bad crash @ Nurburgring...be safe

Found this on another forum: Just a reminder to play safe even on a track as you may take others down with you.

Deadly day at the Nurburgring
Sunday 11 Jun 10:30. A 24 year old on a Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle looses control of his bike on the hill in Fuchsröhre a very high speed section of the track with small but blind uphill corner, after tumbling more than 100 meters he struck the guard rail suffering fatal injuries. By now a car driver who had no time to brake, crashes into the motorcycle in the middle of the track. Because of the location of crash two more bikers’ age 42 & 48 approached at high speed and were not able to stop in time to avoid the oil and debris on the track, both crash suffering light injuries. Seconds later a Porsche 997 and a M5 BMW approach and manage to stop in time but a 54 year old man on a Ducati traveling close behind the Porsche could not hitting the rear of the White Porsche, the force of the impact throws the 54 year old man over the car landing in front of the BMW he also suffers fatal injuries........
Track was closed for about 6 hours...... Lots of talk that the owners should run cars and bikes at separate times but I don't think they will ever change.... Despite the carnage I will still continue to ride and enjoy this incredible place.....My boss also a rider had this crash happen almost in front of him and despite having seen death up-close he continues to ride this place as well.....Place is worse than crack...... that’s the only way to explain it

I would like to experience the Nurburgring someday, but it will be in a car with a roll cage.

Have a very good friend who tumbled there. Broke several bones and was out of action for months...

Hard to imagine anything like this ever happening in the US for any length of time. This track must have a healthy consent form.

no consent form at all, just purchase the ticket for the toll booth and role on out! I have been to the ring about 3-5 times a year for the past 3 years, and as you can read on Ben Lovejoy's site ( www.nurburgring.org.uk ) when you play on the ring in a safe and controled manner you really are less likely to have this type of crash. Yeah sure a small incident or off track could even happen then, but much less likely to have a fatality. Scenes like this and wrecker hauling off the carnage always stick in my mind when I am there.

i've been there on a bike quite a few times too, and it is indeed very dangerous to be amongst these very fast cars...it's an exhilirating ride though!

approaching 30y now, and i guess my fear has overcome my urge to ride there on a bike again

i WILL be there in the porsche someday though...

sad accident nonetheless RIP¨

K9, do they charge per lap ? or does that fee get you multiple laps?
I'll be over in October, hope to hook up with you or Harald for a ride!

It is per lap, use to be 10 DM in 1997, don't know what costs is in euros now. Driving the ring is just that, you can drive it like any regular autobahn in germany at any pace you choose. I doubt you'd get into serious accidents if you drive at a reasonable for your conditions and car control ability in an appropriate car kind of way. You can still have a great time if you drive at say 70-80% of your own capability and at same of the car's capability.

yeah it's per lap and cheaper the more laps you purchase. Easter weekend I paid 56 euro for a 4 lap ticket and used two of them before I was sound tested and prevented from further laps. =o( The nice thing is the ticket is good through Sep so I can use the ticket before then. They also have a season pass if you are going to be there quite a bit and that is unlimited laps but the fee is pretty high.
