removing charcol filter
Putting an older 3L in an 82 roller that is plumbed with a charcoal filter. Can I just cap off the small hose that comes from the tank, or do I need to do something more involved?
The Bently book and other references are very vauge about this. Thanks!

dunno, but I'd want to be sure and maintain the evap. emissions system. You may need to trace all the hoses and figure out their function to determine what to do.

Hi Mark,
Good question. Not sure if I have the ans, but inquired a few yrs ago. I was lead to believe, can not remember from where/who, that fuel tank needed to be vented. And it was vented via the char canister. I just removed the canister and did not plug he line from the tank= just secured it I do not smell any fumes but i am sure they are there. So I would also be interested others' comments. Also I think someone told me if i plugged the line I would get fuel in the car - odor that is. Sorry I could not be more help. Earl

I'm ditching mine, but have not figured out the exact new method of venting yet. I decided to do this when I found charcoal in the airbox.
I will post my solution as soon as I devise it. Pat

I forgot to mention that my project is a race car. I'm not planning on putting a cell in until I pay off the current project and can afford an enduro-sized tank.
In a street car, the venting is required as the fuel heats up and the gasses expand. This is a big deal with cool gass from underground tanks and a warmer outside temperature. This is can really be an issue when topping of the tank. I fuel almost exclusively with fuel bottles, which are at the same temp as the car and air temperature. In addition, the fuel level is rarely above half a tank. Because of these reasons, i'm not sure venting is as necessary. Any thoughts?

needs a ball check valve - Warren or sherwood posted on this in an old thread I think.
or just keep the stock evap. emissions stuff, it will work fine and doesn't weigh much - also you can then drive to the track

I deleted the charcoal cannister and the expansion tank from my 88. My first move was to cap the nipple in the fender where the vent hose connected the fuel tank to the expansion box. However, after driving the car, at my next fill up, when I opened the gas cap I had gotten some vapor lock (major sucking noise). So, I removed the cap I put on the nipple and now the fuel tank just vents into the front fender.
Car has been this way for over two years and its never been a problem.
