ducktail and engine grill compatibility?
ok, what is the info? if the plastic grill off of a carrera wont fit in a particular ducktail, does that mean a aluminum one will need to be used? just to be fully informed. what is the going $$ for a alum unit? hard to find?

In lieu of finding an aluminum grill - yes, they're hard to find (unbent, that is), you may have to modify the plastic grill to fit.
You can remove the excess grill material with a belt sander. I remember removing most of the material from the lower edge and around the lower corners. Sherwood http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Hello Vash:
I was under the impression that longhood and shorthood grills were all the same basic dimensions. I purchased a duck from Rennspeed and my 1987 plastic grill fits perfect. Good luck. Mike |

Cliff-
I did a search and the grills do have slightly different dimensions. But, some point out that some of the tails also have different sized openings (slight variances) to where sometimes even the aluminum grill must be trimmed. All that said, it was a universal notion that the plastic grill required trimming, no matter which duck tail was used. |

I didn't mean to imply the grills were necessarily different. However, there are factory grills and there are aftermarket grills. Which one do you have?
Not all ducktails were/are created equally. Sherwood |

I had to trim the grill from my SC to fit my duck. I used a Dremil to do the larger removal and sanded it into shape. If I remember i had to cut the entire lower rib off.

Yep, my plastic grill definitely did not fit the aparture on my duck. Fortunately when holidaying over there I dropped into TRE and they had an aluminium grill spare, but it had been painted black.
When I got back to Oz I stripped it, and pulled off each individual rib, straightened them in a jig and rebuilt the grill. Not 100% perfect, but it came out pretty good.

My Rennspeed Ducktail fit without modification to the grill....I had an AIR ducktail on a 70T that required modifications to the SC grill I used in the ducktail....My original grill did not come close to fitting in the opening...and there was no way I was going to modify it.....
