Need tire recommndations for lindsey P2s -

for track use, but needs to have good wet characteristics, and some life expectancy - think Yokohama's deceased A032R.

This is for 9x17 and 11x17, thinking 255/40/17 and 315/35/17 for sizes...

Recommendations, suggestions?

Need to order immediately, so help me out with your comments!

There was a thread not too long ago on making sure the car stays balanced. You might want to read through it. In the end Bill Verburg said 235/40 & 265/40 on 17''s would work.

tires

i went with kumho ecsta spt tires, sized 245-45-17 and 285-40-17. they are not all-out dot race tires, i have a set of hoosiers for the track. they are cheap around $120 ea. the size looks good on the lindseys, sorry i don't have a pic yet.

That was for an SC/Carrera flared car.

This is obviously a turbo flared car, which I just don't have enough experience w/

255/315 will work fine. 275/315 will be better. I've run both.

I have to say, I found A032R's to be terrible track tires and terrible street tires. I got better lap times with BFGoodrich g-force T/A kd's, and they didn't sound like my bearings were shot every time I drove on the street.

So, for long life and mixed use, I'd suggest the BFGoodriches. But if it's for track only, you can also do Hoosiers or Victoracers -- you just won't get many weekends out of them.

I just put a new set of tires on my car yesterday, and I'm curious about how they'll do. They're Toyo RA1's, but stepping a full size down, to 255/275. My eyes have gotten so used to the 275/315 tires on my rims that the new Toyos look like bicycle tires.

I'm heading up to Thunderhill Raceway tomorrow, and will have some opinions, no doubt, by Monday.

Jack - pictures.

I considered the RA-1s. I need to use the tires in question on a recent build that will see Targa Newf. duty - about 1800 miles in the drizzle and dry. I want to set up the suspension and dial in the car on the rubber that it will compete in later...

I was thinking the RA-1s were going to be too soft to go the distance, comments?

Also considering the Kuhmo Ecsta V70As? Need grip AND wet character, and 2K mileage... A032Rs would have worked, but a better tire available in these sizes is appreciated, of course!

Think rally tarmac or intermediate rain with hard compound.

Full tread depth RA-1's will fill your requirements and should last the 1800 miles.

I'm pretty happy with my RA-1's - drive them to the track - when they heat up, they stick like glue -

Do some research on the Falken Azenis RT-615. You will be pleasantly surprised. Loving mine!

Sorry for the highjack but I have a question.

Just ordered 245/45/17 for my 9" and 315/35/17 for my 11"s. They're p3's. Should I go wider up front? Like 255?

Thanks,

Q.

I have A032r's that I ran last year, they are okay. My car is noisy so I did not notice them adding any more volume. I just mounted a set of RT-615's a couple of weeks ago. Can't say how they are as the car is about 2 months from being back on the road/track

I did drive a new Elise with Yoko A048's yesterday, they seem to stick pretty well......

Cheers

The A048 don't come in useable sizes for the P2s (930 sizing)...

That's part of the issue.

RA1 are pretty darn good in the rain w/ tread remaining. In the feb races this year @ VIR, it was raining/snowing and they were fine (Id prefer them in the rain to any 'street' compoind Ive driven on). Should go 2k mi+ if you're not running excessive toe.

suprisingly good. I had them shaved to 6/32nds. I was worried about them - no rain at the track - but one the way back ran into a little and they were fine - even in a Florida downpour...

My street tires - AVS Sports are very good in the rain - and I really didn;t notice any difference.

you will have an understeer issue if you go with less than a 275 upfront. The best setup on a 930 is 275/315.

It will stick like it's glued to a rail.

I have run YOKOhamas and hated the A032R as being noisy and poor on grip. I love my Kumho Victor racers and I have them in 255x 40 and 315x35 on 9 and 11 inch 17's. I don't know how you fit 275's on the front as that would rub on my 930. 255's are tight and I actually run 245x40 on the street.

Yes. You're going to have to tune around lots of push with that combo. 275 would be ideal, but 255 would be better than 245.
