I bought some stuff from Joe Cogbill. Nice guy, fair prices and he will ship. But if you have a day, drive up there, its beautiful. There is a farmers market up there, and some country food restaurants. I had fun when I went to get my fender.

thanks for all the info. i knew this board would help me out!!!!! next question anyone down for helping out with an engine swap??? i am learning in that direction.

Kelly Bell 08-12-2006 03:36 PM

Kelly,
I will help! I've never done it, tho. Is there beer involved? Where are you gonna do it? You said your garage wasn't suitable.

I can help with an engine swap.

kellyporsche 08-14-2006 08:34 AM

Thanks for all the help. Not sure yet if this engine will be built here (GA) or shipped I am still working on that aspect of the build. I will make sure to keep those interested posted. And yes Kelly Bell there is always beer involved even when I check the tire pressure.
Thanks

I just saw a post, Mobile Werks will fly out and do it. Might be the cheapest. We can do an engine swap at my house but I have to charge or my wife gets mad :-)

Now lets step back, you may have a hose up top that has come loose and you are losing oil. It would go through the fins in the heads and you could not tell where it was coming from in the dark.

Its probably terminal but maybe not. I would go for a swap to a 3.0 too. FYI be very careful with Joe cogbill.....he has a bad rep in some circles.

Steveinatlanta 08-14-2006 10:54 AM

Built?

Ship?

Did you say ship?

Maybe I didn't read the whole post carefully enough, but there's this business called Motormeister and...

One thing I can tell you, having someone re build your existing engine, even if they are good and very reputable, can be a lot more expensive than your original price quote. If you have to replace something that you thought was going to be repaired, it goes up fast.

Why not buy a used engine?

Joe Cogbill is a nice guy and is hard to deal with. Be careful.

But, on a purchase this size (for a used engine) he might be worth it.

anyone have any suggestions on how to PPI a used engine?

Blanco 08-14-2006 11:28 AM

Ditto on what Steve said. Be careful and do a search on the "potential" company that you want to ship to.

kellyporsche 08-14-2006 12:40 PM

Yea I have read on here many times about MM. If it gets shipped its going to Henry @ SuperTech. I'll keep everyone posted as the search is on for the 3 or if I'm lucky 3.2.......

I used to be a huge fan of Performance Improvements until Bob left and my suspension work was buggered. As to German Motor Tech - run away! Push your car if you have to but no thanks!

Came across this add on another list - it was posted today

No affiliation, just passing it on...

Beer? Exellent! I just had my 2.7 done by Performance Imports. It needed:

6 pistons
6 jugs
new bearings
new airbox
new timing cover
valves
timing gear and chains
clutch
all machining

It was $9000. But anyway, it is basically going to be all new excpet for the block, heads and crank. I am still in shock, but I told them to go ahead and do it. Looks like I'll be eatin weinies for a few months, but I cant wait to drive it!

Kelly Bell 08-14-2006 03:05 PM

Also a new oil pump for good measure

ghnat 08-14-2006 07:20 PM

Kelly,
I want to check it out when it is done...

Kelly Bell 08-15-2006 01:03 AM

Hi Greg! Iam excited about it, but a little stunned. If would have cast me $6k for the parts anyway. The $3k is for the labor. It will be macanically complete when it gets out of there.

kellyporsche 08-15-2006 08:46 AM

Anyone want to meet up some where this weekend? Just looking to meet some new people since I am new to this area. And also try and figure out the best way to attack my worn out engine. Let me know I am available either sat or sun.
Thanks
Neil

BlkBird 08-15-2006 10:57 AM

Kelly,

I'm jammed this weekend. How about next Sunday, the 27th? Or I can play hookie on a Friday if that works.

kellyporsche 08-15-2006 01:14 PM

BlkBird I work till noon on friday so if you want to meet up we can after that. Other then that the 27th would be great also. I am just trying to get some advice and meet some porsche enthusiasts. I am located in Alpharetta ext 11 off 400 fyi.

Neil

I second what ELOMBARD said about hoses on top of engine. Happen to me and scared the bejeezeus out of me. Only to find that the hose at the rear of the engine bay behind the intake (directly) had cracked and was spewing oil out. It's the top oil line back to oil tank (I think) around the air box.... well on my 87 anyway!!

Kelly Bell 08-15-2006 01:53 PM

I can dump a little early on Friday! Where you guys gonna meet? Is there beer involved?
