Engine Rebuild in GA

Well after an eventful past weekend my 911 now needs a rebuild. I am looking for info on any recommended shops and contacts in Georgia. Please let me know!
Thanks
Neil

Galen Bridges used to build some nice motors in the Atlanta area. He had a neat twin plug 2.7 in his personal car. This was many years ago.

You could also consider this the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a 3.0,3.2, or 3.6.

Good luck.

Are you going to do any work yourself? like take it out, etc.. You're going to get a price difference of 'thousands' from different shops.

Yes the 3- 3.2 has been going through my mind, but I don't want to rebuild one of those either. If I did upgrade to a 3.2 EFI would be a HUGE +

And what does "eventful" mean? No personal injury, I hope.

To rebuild a 2.7 liter motor 'Right' is not cheap. You may be able to find a 'nice' 3.2 with all the FI stuff for about the same as a 2.7 rebuild.

I have used Pefornance Imports on Peachteree Industrial Blvd for my entire resto project fopr my 75, and except for taking a long time with the engine rebuild, they are happy to have me walk thru thier 3 shops, gawk at the race cars, ask stupid questions, and on 3 occasions, the wrenchs there have stopped work on customer cars to explain or help me with a part. Owners name is Peter Wendt. The engine rebuild guy there is Clayton. Smokes a lot and talks fast, but he has taken time out every day during the tear down to explain to me and look at parts with me.

Neil,

First question; what is your planned use?
Daily driver to school?
Café racer to pick up…?
Sunday driver?
More restoration?
DE, Auto-X and occasional track?
Dedicated track use?

Next, what happened to the engine? What diagnosis have you done?

Clearly it is to your advantage to do it yourself. It is very cost effective and fun.

The advice to install a 3.0, 3.2 or later is correct. The cost will be about the same as doing your 2.7 correctly. If you intend to compete with the Targa, you need to pay attention to the class with an engine swap. If you do a swap, be sure and save your original 2.7.

Best,
Grady

Grady Clay the car is used for sunny days/daily driver. Nothing too special and I don't plan to track the car.

Now the engine part....
Last Friday I started the car and black smoke came out and didn't stop. So I shut her down and drove my other car to work. Sat I started and it did the same thing so I shut it down and decided to wait til Sun. Sunday I started it and it smoked (black) so I wanted to wait and see if it would stop it didn't (5min). But what it did do was set off the CO2 alarm in the apartment complex I live in for 30 min!!!! Anyway I waited till about 10pm and decided to drive around the complex. It was smoking bad so I stopped and looked under the car. It was losing oil EVERYWHERE and I noticed that the smoke wasn't coming out the pipe it was coming out betweent the heads. So she now rests in my garage until I can find an alternative.
Any help would be great!!!!!!!!

Good call and where are you located if I may ask. I need some info for a repair shop since I live in an apartment (with two garages) but they are not large enough nor do I have the tools to perform an engine rebuild. If you would be interested I might call on anyone to help with a drop/install.
Let me know
Thanks
Neil

Neil,

I have had a couple of sets of heads done at "Eagle Machine" in Auburn, Ga. The phone is 877-339-3053 or 888-339-3053.
Frank does a lot of work and will completely rebuild your engine. He is good to work with and his prices are fair.

Good Luck,

Ron

Neil,

Update on Frank's number. I remembered after I posted my reply that I never was able to get anyone on their toll free number. The commercial number is 770-427-6636.

Neil,

I have another piece of info; Just outside of Cleveland Georgia on Hwy 384 (specifically 4404 New Bridge Rd) is a Porsche junk yard. You can get a complete engine or parts to help you put yours back together. Joe Cogbill is the owner and was quite a porsche racer at one time. Joe's number is 706-865-5200. He has a web site "germanautodismantlers.com" but if you visit him you can save some $.
