Has anyone had a water problem with an air box mod on a Carrera?

I just spent an hour reading old threads about air box mods. I am interested in a little more sound at acceleration, not the horse power promise.

I do not drive my car in the rain much but there is always the down pour on a long trip. I just went out and looked at the air box and it seems it would be tough to get much water in there tucked up under the engine bay like it is.

Has anyone actually had a problem with water?

I saw a picture (although I could not find it today) where someone had left a little lip at the top just in case.

thanks

erik

Here's stormmaster's cut lid...kinda hard to see, but the entire end/snorkel was cut off, but enough material was left to shield the opening.

drive my car everyday, but it never rains in California...

posted a pic for Steve Wong in another thread about his chips when another person had a similar inquiry. Literally the same angle as stormmaster's:

Easy to do, and really makes the right bank much more accessable, especially without the a/c compressor in conjunction.

I went with one like SuperDave's with a little "rain guard" at the top. Easy to cut and file with a dremmel. Will take it out tomorrow and see if I can hear any difference. Thanks for the replies.

Just took a hole saw to mine and I have driven it in the rain and have had no problems. Sounds good too.

OK- I went for a drive today after putting the Mahle back on (had a K&N- decided to go stock for a while) and removing most of the air box cover. I must say the roar over about 4k is inspiring. Definitely worth the 15 minutes of dremmeling and the burnt rubber pieces in my hair. I have to agree with a previous statement that it brings sound to the right side of the engine very nicely at high rpm's. Thanks for all the help guys.
