What Chris said. If you don't have one check and see it the top of the stud has a couple of flats on it. If it does you can use and adjustable wrench to hold the piston.

1. Wrap the outer periphery of the large, keyed washer with leather scraps or cardboard strips ... at least three layers, then grab secirely with large Channel-lock pliers or pipe wrench.
2. Use 6-point 22 mm impact socket in 1/2" drive impact wrench ... 20 - 30 seconds and the nut should be off!

I used a long screwdriver that I placed between the cutout on the keyed washer and the car body. Took some finagling to find the right place to position the screwdriver so it would catch but it worked to keep the washer stationary and hence the shock piston shaft.

This is a crazy world. His problem is unlocking and my problem is locking that puppy. If you guys could look at my thread, I would appreciate it.
Sorry. I do not mean to hijack as probably you would have same problem as mine at assembly. |

Lisle Tool has a special wrench kit set up that counterholds the center shaft. It comes with several little tools that you can use on both the front and the rear. However, I have yet to actually need to use mine. I just crank the air wrench on full and zap that nut off, then zap it back on.
