magnetic door jamb switch installation

Does anyone know if there are extra wires in the door I might use to install this setup? I need two wires going back to under the dash......
Anybody ever installed one of these? How?

I'm trying to get some interior lights. Problem is that the hole the switch screws into has been reamed out to the point where I can't find a suitable replacement. Prevoius attempts worked for a short while, but the switch came loose again.
I went through several replacements, then decided to try something different.
I went here for this; it is a reed switch mounted to the door jamb that is actuated when the door opens and moves the magnet mounted to the door away from the switch, which then closes, actuating a relay, which turns on the lights.

I followed the directions, routing the relay and wiring to the point one is to mount the door jamb switches. Apparently, one is to attach the switch to the back side of the switch opening in the door jamb, so that the reed switch is exposed.

OOPS.

The back of the door jamb can't be accessed, best I can tell. I called the company, and asked Joe 'customer service' what to do.

He said "you can't install it on that kind of door jamb" (dumbass) then it got real quite. I swear, it sounded just like this guy.............



After several seconds I asked whether anyone (like a design guy?) had any experience installing such a kit on a 911 since this was the # to call if one had a problem. "Don't know--it won't work."

Is the design guy around?

How about putting a riv-nut in the hole and using the original Porsche switch.

You probably know this but the switches are just a negative ground to close circuit of the interior light and on 3.2's, to operate the windows when the car is off until doors are ajar which opens that circuit.

Have you tried cleaning and polish the original switch and making certain the ground wire is securely crimped or better yet soldered.

If so, while the switch is removed and depressed. Ground it by touching the pilar/chassis, it should turn on the interior light. Check both sides to verify.

My passenger side switch was a bit bent so when the door opens it would bind up and the debris did not help either. I cleaned it, polished, straightened it out, insured the spring worked properly, lubed and tested. All good.

Be advised....most reed switches are of very low current carrying capacity.
You might have to install a relay in the circuit to increase the capacity so that the switch does not burn out or weld itself together.

Oh I see, if it is a fitment issue, how about fabricating a metal sleeve ( like a wall anchor ) to take up the diameter and thread the thinner switch in using a tap tool.

Metal/copper so you will have proper contact.

I think you can install the switch to this washer and then maybe install the washer in your over size hole??

reed switch has a relay--installed already.
I talked to the engineer at the switch place and we agreed that the reed switch could go into the door and the magnet on the jamb.
I think I've got a connector not in use inside the door , so could use those two wires.
