Need Help Identifying Distributer Type
I just received a new set of points (from Pelican) to install in what I thought was a stock '72 911T Bosch distributor. After removing the distributer and the points from it I find that the new point set is identical except that it is opposite hand. In other words it is a mirror image in terms of setup from the ones that were in there(?). Upon further examination I notice the part number of my distributer is '0.231.169.003' which from what I can find out is not a stock distributer for the 'T'. Note that I beleive the engine has been rebuilt to 'S' specs and the engine number does match the chasis number. This part number seems closer to an 'S' distributer part number. Anyone have knowledge regarding this. I guess my biggest issue is finding the correct points. Suggestions???

According to my factory service manual, that is a distrubutor for a '72 'E' ... 002 was for 'T,' 003 for 'E,' and 004 for 'S' that year ... no need to be concerned, the ONLY difference between all three was which rev-limiting rotor was installed! You may want to check your rotor closely ... what you want is a 7300 rpm rotor! There were changes for the '73 models' distributor, so Pelican may have sent you points for a '73 ... the 'mirror image' thing is a very common problem for Bosch points, so it is really no big deal! Bins all over the world probably have mixed-up sets of Bosch points in them!!!
