There are a few upgrades than can be done to your 3.2 , but the cost versus gain in power is very small. A chip, and exhaust will give you 10 to 15 hp increase, but that is not enough to rip your head off. A nice exhaust would be $2000.00 us dollars and a chip is $200.00 to $300.00 us dollars. I suggest that you buy Bruce Andersons porsche peformance hand book. He goes over alot of stuff. I have a 85, the same engine as you, and I have entensley looked at every part in the engine , looking for more power. I have 25 years of hi performance engine building expereince,do all of my own porting and head work, and havea ton of engine dyno time on vw engines. Porsche has done a fine job with there engines, near perfect. I would leave it alone, and if you want to really get down and romp, buy a turbo porsche. Just my input on this one!
Good Luck!!

It is hard to tell whether you are looking for a higher top end, or quicker acceleration. If accleration is you target for improvement, I suggest you talk to the PowerHaus II people about gearing changes to your G-50 transaxle.

It seems everybody (including myself), is, or was on, the eternal quest to turn a 3.2 into a 993. Before you begin spending on numerous upgrades, you might want to think it through. With all the upgrades available (I too have read B. Anderson's book), the most HP you could gain would be about 30-40HP. That might take a few tenth, maybe even a half a second 0 to 60, but it is not going to make you car a Corvette beater. Say you do these upgrades and spend $$$. You will never get it back if you sell. Most Porsche buyers want originality and will penalize you for changes. And since you already are thinking of more power, the day's 993's become affordable, you, like I , will be thinking of buying one.
It may sound simple, but the quickest way to make your car faster is to make it LIGHTER. Now I know unless your going to turn your car into a project car, this is not realistic, but I have a point. As I drive my 89, I have more of an appreciation for older 911's because the weighed much less. What about a 73 with a twin plugged 2.7 and Webers!! Now that car flies. The 3.2 engine has just about as much power as they can get out of it, it just the cars got heavier.
I have done modifications on my car in the handling and suspension and I can see improvement on the track. When I was at the track last month, I would catch every Corvette, 3000GT at turns because the 911's has superior handling. There is nothing wrong with wanting more power out of your car. I just think that the 911's was designed as a superbly handling sports car that was plenty fast. Let the redlight dragraces belong to Camero's and Vettes.
