My 86 3.2 Carrera, bone stock, 165k miles, is a daily driver and I turn about 60 miles a day on my drive to and from work. I average about 24.5 mpg. I drive about 75 mph on the highway most of the way... and only have to contend with a stoplight or two. If mine were newer with a good tune up, I would expect around 28-30.

Enjoy your mpg's

-Troy

The real challenge to getting 30mpg in one of these is keeping your foot out of it. Technically it's possible.

When I blow by somebody in a driving appliance only to have them be right behind me at the next light I can hear them thinking " wasn't that a waste".

I'm thinking - who can I pass next?

My wife gets 27-29 in town and 30 mpg+ consistently in her '84 Carrera (70-80 mph) and the engine has 212K miles on it! She does not put her foot into it as much as I would--if I ever get a chance to drive it!

I am loving the fact that the purchase of 3.2 Carrera was a wonderful decision and one of the few cars I can say that I have a real passion for. What else could we want out of a car...dependable, rugged, and economy? One word..WOW.

I share the love for the 3.2 Carrera - when I decided I had to own a 911 already, it was the sage advice of Pelicans that I should buy the best 911 I could afford and the 85 coupe was a purchase I will never regret. It is such a dependable and turn-key enthusiast's car, I just never looked back. Add to that the considerable power and decent fuel economy and you end up with a spirited true sports car that is as good as I could have hoped for.

I got 26.5 mpg on a 1300+ mile trip from Fla to Oh when I bought my 88 Carrera. Mostly 70-85 mph and punching it whenever possible. I did run long sections on cruise control. 30 mpg doesn't sound impossible but I'll never get it.

The large fuel tank and decent mileage add to the already satisfying 911 touring experience.
