2.7 with a problem
I have a 1976 2.7 engine that was rebuilt 13,000 miles ago however that was also 10 years ago. The number 1 cyl has low compression and you can hear a whooshing sound when you turn the engine over. All the other cyls are good. I would guess that somehow it has a head gasket leaking. Can the head be pulled off with the engine in the car? I don't want to pull the whole engine down as it is solid just fix the head problem. Yes when it was rebuilt it had case savers installed and I have already re torqued the heads and still a problem with number 1.
Thanks Kerry |

You will need to pull the engine to repair this. It's easier to pull the engine that to try and do it in the car.
I suggest you do a leakdown test to find out where the leak is, head gasket, valves, rings, etc. That will tell you what you need to fix. |

You can hear it leaking when you turn the motor over with just a single plug in that cyl. It is leaking from what I can hear around the head/cyl area. not thru intake or exhaust or thru breather.

Kerry,
Do you know if Dilivar studs were used in the rebuild? If so, I suggest that you plan on replacing the Dilivars with OEM steel studs. Any existing steel studs won't need replacing, but the currently intact Dilivars could fail at any time in the future!
