What did I remove?

I removed a plug similar to the sump plug, thinking it was the sump plug. Oil came out and so did a 4 inch spring. It is unclear if anything else came out. Doh@!

Thermostat?

Oil pressure relief valve. I did the same thing. There should be more parts than just a spring. Oil plug is on the side of the lower case...instead of the bottom.

Thanks you guys!

I found the end, but I am missing the piston. Probably down the drain of the oil pan or shot out somewher in the driveway. I will look for it in the am.
