precise rear decklid width
I don't have my car here and need to finalize positioning of the supports to mount my rear wing. Could someone please measure the precise edge-to-edge width of their engine cover/ducktail? Should be the same for all 1974-1983 I believe...
thanks!

I think the lid is not square so depending on where the measurement is taken it will be differen t.

Good point,,,how about 2/3rd of the way down, where Jack has his brackets mounted in this thread...Poor Man's Aero: Building Your Own Wing (many pix)
right at about the leading edge of the ducktail

John,
I have a lid from a middle 80's 911. The dimension at the top is 38.5". Tapers down to 34" at the bottom. 9" from the bottom the width is 36".

If you have the length from the top to the bottom he can make a pattern of the deck lid.

Thanks guys, Doug that's what I was looking for. Don't need a pattern, just how far apart the tail should have the built-in wing mounts.

The width measurement would be more consistent on a factory deck lid, not so precise on a FG ducktail. I suggest if you're going to fabricate something with accurate dimensions, you shoud start from an accurate measurement of your particular deck lid/duck tail.
.... or get a consensus from several owners of the engine compartment opening, then extrapolate from there. Might be closer, but still not as accurate as measuring yours. Sherwood |
