A/C delete, nearly there............
Got most of that A/C crap out of my car over the weekend.
I've owned the car for nearly 20 years, and it never worked so it's a victim of the new diet plan. Most of it came out cleanly, except for the left hose from the engine bay to the front condensor. It was just too tight and wouldn't come out in either direction so I cut it. Just need to get the cabin fan out. Questions: 1) what to do with the centre console and knobs. 2) should the front condensor protection bar stay out? It looks structural to me as it seems to connect the 2 front torsion bar mounts. 3) how have others plugged the holes created by the front condensor fan? I plan to use thin alloy slightly bent and screwed back in with self adhesive foam as a seal. And by the way, part of a good dietary plan is plenty of excercize, so we're off for a run!! See ya! suss

Correction. The biggest pain in the a.... was the compressor bracket.
Most posts say you need to remove the muffler first but my flange nuts were nicely seized so I decided to leave those alone until SSI's. I had progree, albeit very slow by backing off the 2 nuts retaining the muffler support bracket, allowing the lower compressor nut to back out. here's all the cr..p ![]() ![]() All up weight reduction of around 29 kg or 64 pounds. Seat next, then SSI's & M + K

I've had mine for 25 years. I did the SSIs & M+K already. I'm about ready to do the delete also.

John, I'm interested whether you did the heater backdate?

No. I didn't do the heater backdate. It gets cold where I live and I haven't had the heat on yet with my SSIs.

I'll bet it looks good with all that useless garbage out of the engine bay.
1) Some people take out the console, when they do the a/c removal. I haven't decided whether I'm going that route yet. 2) My car is missing the bar you are talking about, so I need to find out if it is needed! 3) That's exactly want I did. Otherwise water can get in the front during heavy rain, driving through puddles. I removed my a/c a few months back. I can see the engine and work on it so much easier. I left my evaporator fan in the smugglers box, since I want to rig it up to blow fresh air. If you want to clear up more junk, do the heater backdate too.

Leave the fan and the evap box in the car. Simply remove the evap itself and use the fan for ventialtion. I did this and I am glad I did. It also helps with the heat since it blows air fron the little outside vents. Remove the temp control knob and use a little rubber plug for the hole or an alarm light. Keep the fan you will be happy you did. JMO

2) The bar is not structural. I took mine out. 3) I did similar. I bought some thin aluminum sheet metal, cut it with tin snips, drilled holes, and screwed the sheet in. I used some silicon caulk to seal it instead of the adhesive foam. I used the same solution on the hole from the pasenger footwell to the smuggler's box. This is where the cabin fan is located. Take out the passenger floor board, and you'll see four screws to get it out. |

The Aussie cars don't have the American "smugglers box".
Our evaporator box is in the cabin behind the passenger (left side for us) footrest. Does that mean the A/C fan is the one behind the dash? This leaves 3 fans (if the engine compartment fan is deleted)- the A/C fan behind the dash and the 2 footwell blowers. Will a heater backdate incorporate all these 3? Rick, can you see from my photos if our systems are different to yours? Jeff, I believe the bar is not really required but some guys use it as a front jacking point. I'm a little concerned about that and would need reassurance from someone more experienced. ![]() fixed from the bottom I thought it neater http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads8/P92100191158706933.jpg[/img] getting there slowly. Sound insulation gone before it got sucked into the airbox

![]() It looks like the same thing as my SC only reversed. It has been a while since I have had the carpeting and stuff out of my car. It's too bad you don't have the ducts, etc like our cars have, it is very nice to flood the car with fresh air since there are no manual vents.

Do you plan on connecting fresh air to the vents? If you do, let us know what you do please. |

good job. dont it feel good to have all that crap out of there? your pics have showed me a couple of items i missed thanks!
my console is gone. i pushed the wires back through the hole then put a black platic plug in looks great. feels great front condensor fan hole plugged with aluminum sheet, using existing screw holes. 20 minute job keep the bar, looks like mine has road rash, helps protect the front end i think. keep fan.

Next project is to get rid of that engine compartment fan.
Me thinks a little more work from what I've read, not only air plumbing but engine tin. Also not sure what to do with that plastic shroud over the top of the engine. This must be done in conjunction with SSI and new exhaust i believe

sus, dont jack from the bar. i use the jack points (get a jack pad for that-they slip into the factory jack ports). there are alot of good posts regarding good places for jack stands. this is also where waynes book provides some great advice and know how.
i also got rid of my (non working) engine compartment blower motor. you will have to splice those hoses together so you dont let heat into your engine compartment. i also blocked off the air that comes out of the cooling fan with aluminum sheeting. that i get more air to the cylinders during the summer. i will try to post a pic

I've got a quick queston. Sorry to hi-jack this thread.
My A/C was deleted by a PO. The fan that was in the smuggler's box is gone. Is there anyway to route ventilation air through thw center and side dash vents? -Matt
