power window regulator control unit
1988 911 cab.
Anyone know where this relay is located? Anyone ever taken one apart? I'm tracking down some issues. The windows work whenever the door is open. This is handy in a cab when you are putting the manual top down but I don't think it is supposed to work that way. Wondering if this is putting a small load on the battery that shouldn't be there when the car is off. |

There is no relay ... the manual-controlled switches are the only control circuit!

On an 88 I'm pretty sure the windows are supposed to work until you open a door then cease to function.
This relay (shown as a relay with a npn transistor symbol on the wiring diagram) is responsible for that. It has the door switch signal going into it. |

OK ... the power delay relay ... it shares a ground wire with the seat belt relay, if that helps any.
You can test it, once found, by grounding the 85b input terminal with ignition switch on and off. You may want to look at the Brown/White wire at terminal #85b to see if it is getting ground signal from the door switches.

I thought that relay shared a ground with the driver's door pin switch. If you open the door you can operate the windows without turning the ignition switch on.
edit: Opps, maybe that was the earlier cars.

There are 5 relays up in the luggage compartment by the gages. None are marked. Not real accessible but oh well.
How would I find out which one is the power window controller? Here are the part numbers. I thought I could look them up on pelican parts to see what they were but Wayne doesn't seem to have all of them. 911618102.00 Relay, Seat Belt Warning, 928518113.00 No match 944615112.02 Says it is a relay 944615113.00 Air Conditioning System Relay, 924S/944 thru 1/85 111953227D Flasher/Turn Signal Relay, 911 (1985-89), There is a slight odor of gas when you have your head buried up there for an hour. Is that normal? |

The manual has a picture of the locations, picture 971-13. Of course it shows 3 relays there and I have 4. I thinking maybe one is the seatbelt delay.
I figured I could tell which one it was if I touched it and had someone hit the door switch. Didn't work, it is completely silent. How do I get the gages out? When I push and wiggle the gas gage it doesn't budge and starts to flex. |

Also, it is not a delay relay. It allows the windows to work when either door is open or the ignition is on. In your 87 you would have this relay. Window controller |

Rick,
The way it should work is. Stop motor, remove key from ignition and windows will work untill you open door. So the relay has to know that door is open and I wonder if the power comes through for example the dome light and if dome light is burned out no juice routed through it when door open. Also the door open switch may be bad. I'll go check my Bentley. Cheers JR
