how to find out what it is (or was)
Hi
I remember reading somewhere that anybody could send some money (I remember $30) to Porsche with your VIN number and they would, in turn, send back the particulars, options etc. to which the car was built and delivered. Does anybody have the skinny on this? The address and procedure? Thanks in advance Andy 84 Arrest Me Red Cab. YGOSLOW |

Yes, you are referring to the PCNA "Cardex" program, otherwise known as the Porsche Birth Certificate. To get one, send a copy of your registration or title (showing the VIN), and a check for $30 (it may be $35 now, I can't remember!) to:
PCNA (Porsche Cars of North America) Attn: Wayne Stone, Cardex Program 980 Hammond Dr Suite 1000 Atlanta, Ga. 30328 Be patient, it takes 4-6 weeks to come back. It will basically tell you your car's engine number, exterior color, interior color, factory options, and maybe your tranny type and number. Definitely a nice record to have for your files. You may want to give PCNA Atlanta a call to check on the latest address & fee, as my last one was a few months ago. Regards, Chris C. I have done this and I have doubts that it was really worth it. If you have you original owners manual, all the information about your car is in the inside in Porsche's codes which are easy to decifer. When you send away for this you will get this information in a letter form. I guess I was expecting more for the money. A $30 dollar letter.

There is a member on this board with a web-page. charlie Kindel(Charlie Kindel's Porsche).Look for his story. He posted a Decoder on this web-page. Punch in the numbers and you can print it out on your computer!I printed the whole list of factory options.Check it out! It is interesting but wasn't worth paying or waiting for!The page is on the PP home board under owner's stories.
