Alignment Part 2

Just had an alignment done on this fancy new gadget. $75. Pretty reasonable I thought. In answer to the other post, car was corner balanced by PO, and it was right on, so don't know how much that should cost.

Anyway, I posted this on the 914club site and got lots of good answers (thanks, DD). But something that concerns me is 'Thrust Angle'. WTF is that? Sounds like the wheels aren't pointed in the same direction as the car. Top measurement is 'before' bottom is 'after'. Big improvement, but shouldn't thrust angle be zero?

Thrust angle is the direction the rear axle is pointed in relation the the car's centerline.

So If your left rear is toed-in, and your right rear is toed out, you have a positive thrust angle. Your rear axle is steering to the right. A negative thrust angle is steering the rear to the left.

Not that bad, no. But I'd like to see a lttle more total toe-in.

They should have toed-in the RR, but if the alignment was only $75, then it was probably front end only. A 4-wheel alignment is usually double that.

No, it was a 4 wheel, and on the latest equipment. Great shop.

OK, here's the deal. Usually run Fuchs with 205/50's, but taking a 1500+ mile trip (Red Rocks Classic) so put on the 'street' 195/65's on American Racing wheels. VW offset, so they stick out further than the other set up. He adjusted the RR as far as he could go w/o tire rub. Just told me to come back in once the other wheels are remounted, fix at no charge.

As I said, great shop. Porsche dealer here has the same setup and charges $250

That is a really good price then. Especially if he'll realign it for you after the new tires.
