Help, Alternator problem with 74 911

Ok, I replaced the battery today because it was worn out....

Now the symptom has not gone away.
I have noticed the alternator light is very very very dim.
When I was driving last night, I noticed with the more rpms i put on the motor the brighter the generator light became...
Its very very very dim, but it becomes brighter with more rpms.

The belt is tight and not slipping, and now it has a new battery.

Tell me what the problem is if it even has a problem.

Granted it never gets bright and the generator light is on when i start the car until I step on the gas and increase the rpm's.

Any thoughts or experiences.

Is it the stock 50amp Marchal Alt and Regulator?
I would suspect the Alt is going bad, but it may be loose alternator connections.
How long have you had the car and has any one messed with the fan housing or something that would cause the Alt to loose grounding or connections to battery or regulator?

I put it in

I put new brushes in the alternator 2 years ago. When i took it out the first time it was not grounded. I know its grounded to the case now. I do believe it is the 50 amp marchal type.

Many older cars experience that behavior, and it really isn't a problem! I is due to a slight buildup of Voltage drops in the warning lamp circuit ... every connection has some corrosion present -- between the alternator and the warning lamp bulb in the combination instrument bulb holder. A methodical cleaning of each Faston connector and tab, bulb holder, and ground ... can sometimes improve the situation!

My suggestion is to install an expanded-scale Voltmeter like the VDO Cockpit series. With a Voltmeter you can keep track of your alternator behavior and health!

Got it

I got the book and forgot that was in there. Thanks.

I live in Pensacola now, my parents are in PB.

Thank you all for the suggestions and help. I will get it fixed this week end. For I have found only 12.76 volts on the battery vise the 13.8 to 14.2.....I ordered a new alternator and regulator.

Thank you again

Chris

Got the new alternator in and IT DOESNT FIT!!!
The darn thing is tool long and the studs will not go thru the housing.

I checked out that website you suggested and $595 for an alternator shipping from Austrailia....thats a "catafordium" part...

So i took mine in to an alternator shop and had them rebuild. It took 2 old alternators to build a good one but I got it done.
And he charged me 95 bucks...great price....along with the new regulator
which was 90 bucks also.

Turns out I have one of those thick housings, and thats why none of the new ones work..

I guess that why they call them "Bastard 74's"

Thanks for all of your help...
