AC Delete. What's left? Yes, I searched.

Finally bit the bullet and yanked the AC today, everything except what's in the smuggler's box and passenger floorboard. I want to keep the fan in the smuggler's box. What else do I need to take out?

Have you removed the front condensor and the bar that guards it? Also the small fan in the nose of the trunk (although it will leave a hole to cover with aluminum plate or whatever)? Also the hoses... Most people, including myself, recommend just cutting and pulling them...

Maybe you should tell us what you have removed so far.

Eric

I have removed both condensers, front condenser fan, drier, compressor and brackets, all lines cut at front undertray and removed. All I have left are the remainder of the lines leading to the smugglers box. I want to retain the fan to the dash vents and remove everything else from the smugglers box (evaporator etc,) I'd love to see a pic of the box with everything removed except what will supply air to the dash with the AC fan switch in the console. Also, what do I memove from behind the passenger floorboard? How do I remove the outside crankshaft pully that was used for the compressor belt?

fresh air i believe is supplied by that contraption up behind the dash by the wiper motor with air from the grill at the base of the windshield and not really affected by that condensor thingy (technical name) in the smugglers box - but i could be wrong. it has been a while since i had any of that stuff in my car.

I got everything out of the smugglers box. I removed the evaporator and am going to put the fan inside the plastic box back into the car. Hopefully that will supply more air on humid days.

There is a thermostat behind the passenger floor board. that is the A/C intake. Air is drawn in there and is then routed through the smuggler's box. From there it is pushed to the center dash vents, a vent under the dash and two small vents on the far sides of the dash.

Why are you yanking the A/C?

It hasn't worked in years and it really messes up working in the engine compartment. It's my hobby car. (I'll only drive it where there's no traffic unless I get stuck coming back from Lime Rock on July 4th.)

can't you remove the evaporator fan and re-route the ducting with the fresh air blower to use those dash vents?

If I did that I dont think the defroster would work. Am I wrong? Also, the evap blower is 3-speed and pretty strong. It's all hooke3d up. When I finish a few other thinds I'll givie it a try.

You are wrong - sorta What you do is re-route the fresh air from the side vents to the center vent (previously AC only). You lose the ability to have heated air come out of the side vents, but for me that was no big deal since I really only need heat for the defrost and heat for my feet. This configuration also preserves the speed settings for the fresh air so you aren't losing anything there either. I have had things setup this way for a while now and it works great.

This frees up the smugglers box for a lightweight battery.
