Front rotor replacement

I was attempting to replace my front rotors this morning on my 87 Targa. From Waynes book it sounded like a straight forward project; remove the calipers, remove two screws on the rotors and pull the old rotors off. It appears I must dismantle the end part of the axel to slide the old rotor off. I am not sure how to accomplish this. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Doug

Front rotor replacement on these cars is a bit more invloved than most any other car. Your description above sounds like the rear rotors BTW.

You have to remove the brake calipers, then the grease cap, loosen the hex head bolt that secures the hub bolt, remove the hub bolt, pull the entire hub off and be careful with the bearings, they will fall out. Then you need to unbolt the rotors from the hub and install the new rotors. Installation, as they say, is the reverse.

You should clean and repack the bearings and you will need to install new seals on the backside of the hub.

Thats the short version, a search will probabbly get you more details, including several methods for removing the grease cap!

Good luck
Andrew

What is the torque on the fasteners that attach the rotor to the hub?

Porsche Crest

That M7 Allen bolt gets 10 lb-ft or 15 N-m.
