Cool Almost there with more HP

3.2 SS, 98mm Mahle cylinders, JE 9.8CR pistons, 964 cams, '78 CIS on an '82 bottom.
The plan:
Take out my current 3.0 liter, swap tin ware, SSI's with heater back-date to the 3.2 SS, take the 915 transmission to JW for some work.
Then mount the 915 to the 3.2 and install.

(And hope it'll run as intended)

Can't wait to see it in person. Good luck with the installation.

over the summer my '79 targa went to 3.3 , s cams , a bit of porting and polishing , turbo oil pump , backdated exhaust , and a set of 46mm webers. fuel economy down the drain, but what a ride.
get ready to have a ton of fun. best of luck with it.

I'll take more pix during the actual swap.
Plan to do one more run with my stock 3.0 before winter comes.

Very similar to what I've done: 3.0 to 3.2 max moritz 10.5:1 with the 964 cams - but I went with the Carrara intake manifolds, fuel rails, etc and Electromotive EFI.

Tuning continues: still trying to figure out how to get more gas into it.
Appears the SC fuel pump might be putting out enough; might / probably have to change the fuel pressure regulator to the 964 version; might have to go to larger injectors than the Carrera's.

Be alert - you very well may also be lean at the top end and need more gas.

That's the beauty about CIS, you can really adjust the mixture.
I have seen 3.0 conversions to 3.4 with 100mm MM P/C's, enlarged TB, 20/21 cams with stock pump and CIS. (Dane's engine) It run like a bat out of hell.
My set-up is essentially an early '78-'79 SC with slightly larger P/C's and a little more lift on the 964 cams.
I like to keep things simple; no more Lambda but the rest stays: WUR, AAR, AAV, CSV and Decel.Valve.
10.5 CR is the absolute maximum for a single plug; I didn't want to go that high.

Al: Start-up is either very late this year or in the spring. No hurry, my stock 3.0 runs pretty good.

The belt is designed to last longer with the outside notched out.

There is no beauty to CIS, EFI on the other hand, now that is beauty.
