Question on clutch kit pricing... Why so different?

Can someone answer me this question... Why is the clutch kit from our hosts $850 versus the nemesis Performance Products at $700? Seems a pretty big difference for the exact same product.

How is this a question for the forum?

You should ask the folks selling the product.

I posed the question to the forum because I am curious what you guys thought about it. I am just asking for an opinion. I thought that's what the forum was all about.

Well, it's possible Pelican is just "out of touch" with current pricing on this particular product, or maybe Performance bought 100 of them and got a great discount, or they're both Sachs, but one is made in China the other in Germany or who knows?

They do appear to be the same. I'd call Pelican and see if they can explain the difference. Maybe they'll offer to match the price or something?

t6-The BBS is for for that. Many on here are real protective of the host. I once posted a question "why cant the host offer printed catalogs b/c I like to look for parts while I take a $hit and I dont want to get wireless Inet" The question wasn't too well recieved. I got pretty flammed for it too. I then too asked about some various price differences and got flammed even moreso. Ironically as far as new parts are concerend (and except for used parts I have always only purchsed from Pelican so far). Trust me though I do believe in capitalism and if I am ever shopping for a new part that is cheaper elsewhere then I will get it there. Overall thought Pelican is great and this BBS is AWESOME so seeing that you only have 134 posts don't get discouraged. Later

Hey Todd - aren't there two Sachs clutches? And isn't the high performance version the one with the steel/aluminum pressure plate? I assume that's the one made in Germany, right?

As in the rest of the world, some suppliers have higher prices on some items- lower prices on others. I buy pretty much exclusively from our host given the huge educational benefit of this board. If you were to factor in our $0.00 cost for this great resource, we should support Pelican wherever possible IMHO

It's bad form to public compare the competitor's price to that of our host. Rather, pick up the phone and call Pelican and ask them to match the price. Be sure you're comparing "apples to apples," though, and that the components in each kit are identical. Pelican is very good about trying to meet (and beat) competitor's prices.

Arrow parts

I took a chance and bought a Sachs kit from evilbay for about 300 bucks. It worked out perfectly and the replacement was actually a pretty easy job. The other parts for my cleanup project came from Pelican including new rear Bilsteins.

Perf Products is a ripoff; guess they have to pay for those shiny catalogs somehow.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I have heard that the other PP can be problematic with service and I believe firmly in supporting Pelican when ever I can, which has been exclusively so far. I also understand comparing apples to apples - that was why I posed the question to see if there was any difference. Being a sales and marketing executive, I get this question posed to me all the time by my customers and 20% is a sizeable difference. I posed the question to Wayne to see if he could explain why.
