Paypal question...I accepted money but I'm uncomfortable with the transaction.

It involves shipping to Australia and now the buyer is talking about "splitting shipping costs" and "if he's not totally satisfied" and wanting "alloy nuts" as opposed to the open headed steel nuts I have....

Bunch of stuff that just rings alarm bells. It's NOT an eBay auction, it's from a 356 guy that heard I had some wheels for sale that fit early 911s and late model 356s......all this CW stuff gives me the willies.....

Anyways....can I just send back a refund via Paypal? Do I have to make up the paypal commish BOTH ways? Or does Paypal forgive it? Do they have a policy on it?

Anyone BTDT?

is it a Confirmed Address? In that case, you need a tracking # to ensure it was delivered. there is no tracking # available if you ship with USPS overseas so you need UPS or Fedex, but it's expensive.

If you ship to Confirmed address and have no tracking #, they can always do a chargeback claimin they never received it, and you lose the money.

Yes, you can issue a refund from PAYPAL, I've had it done for something I bought. I don't know exactly what the mechanism is and I don't know about the commish. Sounds like it might be a smart move before you ship and get into a disagreement. Just my 0.2.

Nothing has been shipped....I am the seller. I have a perfect paypal record and want to keep it that way. It's just that the buyer is now making demands that I am not willing to accomodate.

If these demands are "after the sale", then you have no obligation to honor them. Only the terms of the sale, as advertised, are binding.

If it were me, along with a refund of the customers money, I would make a thorough report to Paypal explaining that the customer is making additional demands not covered in the original transaction.

I'd tell him to forget it...that the deal just became too complicated.

Paypal allows one to make a full refund w/o a charge. I had to do this before and it was painless, except for the numerous screens I had to navigate through. My only difference was the buyer was in agreement so it all turned out well.

There might be a time period so act quickly.

If the buyer made an agreement then that is binding. If he wanted to negotiate the time would have been before money changed hands and the agreement was made. I would say, here is the deal as is, if you would like it, take it. If not, then I will issue a full refund and sell to someone else. Since it's not ebay, you should have no commission losses.

I've issued a refund in the past through PP also. No fees are taken out and it is real easy. I would walk on this one too.

Thanks.....I processed the refund and added a memo that stated....

I am unconfortable with your requests and conditions AFTER receipt of your payment. I am refunding your money in full. Good Luck.

Smartest thing to do, was issue a full or partial refund, I believe paypal does not charge any fees for this, unless you just "Send Money Now" then there would be fees. Good luck.

Be careful with Pay Pal. The only real way that I have found to get justice with them is through my credit card company, AmEx. I do not keep a bank account attached to PP and use the credit card only.

PP will screw you but if AmEx takes the money back then PP will lock your account down for a month to screw with you, then open it back up if they want to.

Personally I would tell the buyer that "these are the terms, buy it this way or goodby." If your gut is saying that its not a good sale, then follow your gut. Its usually right.

IIRC to recieve payment with Paypal, it has to be tied to a bank account. If all you do is buy stuff, it can be CC only.

Either close down that account or let the money run out. Then make damm sure that you do not have overdraft protection with that account. You can just tell the bank what is happening and start another duplicate account. Once PP gets an account on their records they will almost never take it off.

Sorry but that is not correct. I get funds deposited in my PP account all the time and it just sits in PP, showing a balance in my favour. There is no bank account currently associated with my PP account, I closed it long ago and kept an AmEx credit card holding the account open.

When I buy something or transfer the money out then it goes down to zero.

I am having some similar issues recently (just about soured me on EBay and the people there...)

I talked to my credit union who said that the only way was for _them_ to lock out Paypal thru every electronic number thy have used (be sure to do a good search or have your bank do it).

Then, PayPal _might_ try to come back into your bank account with a different number. The bank said that would constitute fraud and they would go after them if they did it.

So, if you tie a bank acct. to Paypal - ever - it seems like the thing to do is to have a separate acct. and a separate bank from your normal bank. And, to NEVER, EVER do any ETFs from that "Paypal bank" to your normal bank - or vice versa.

Complicated but that would be safest. Your Paranoia Level May Vary (YPLMV).

Just close the checking account and open a new one. If you lose your checkbook or ATM, this is the normal routine. Switching banks altogether would be even more fool proof, if any extra insurance is desired. I don't think PP can follow your checking account when it's changed. I also seem to remember a fill in form on PP that allows you to edit your securing info. The one thing that I believe is all but impossible, is to change the status of your PP account, meaning going back to the limited no fee account they offer (or did) that has no fees and a monthly limit on transactions. Once you move into the premium account, you're stuck, AFAIK.

But, if you want to go to from bank to CC, edit your info and see what happens. CC's are sorta unlimited unless you have a real small limit. The bank acc't with little money seems the safest. Get a free WA Mut acc't with a small deposit. Make sure your info jibes with the info on your ebay account since they are one in the same.

This is how I understand it all to work. What do I know? Those are some clever, remote and stubborn companies, just like every other financial institution.

"Just close the checking account and open a new one."

- This will work well for those not using bill pay or other ETF. If you have to re-enter 30 bill pay screens all over again, it will probably be too cumbersome.
