The moment of TRUTH!

Just how well did I measure, cut and weld all those new pinch weld flanges around the perimeter of my '66 912.

So today when I finished welding in the new right side outer longitudinal channel sheetmetal, it was time to test fit the new floorpan pressings. The areas under both rear torsion bar tubes had me quite nervous because the amount of sheetmetal removed and replaced was extensive. So, I hunted down every ViseGrip in my shop and started the awkward process of fitting the floorpans.

Well, to say the least, I'm delighted with the results! Everything clamped in very close to final position with minimal fitting left to do before I weld them in!

I can already picture how the pans are going to look with a nice 1/8" thick coating of QuietCar sprayed over the inside and a thick splatter coating of Wurth Hi-Build Undercoating over the bottom.

Tonight, I believe there are a couple of well-earned cans of Guinness with my name on them waiting for me downstairs!

Darryl D.

Nice work! Don't you hate it when you put a TON of time into something that no one will ever see..

Yah, I've never seen that many pairs of vicegrips in one place..

Daryl's 912 is one of the finest restorations I've ever seen- and this coming from someone who has done similar work on VW's. I think to do any better you'd have to go to Gunnar Racing.

Beautiful work Daryl, keep it up! Another early Porsche saved.

Daryl,

Awesome work!!

What kind of jig holds your car in position? I'm getting ready to do the same work on my '74 Carrera.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Regards,

"cans of Guinness"???

Egad - how can you live in Seattle and drink beer out of cans or bottles? You need (and deserve) it hand-pumped from a cask for a real reward.

John Walker's shop is just 2 blocks from a pub. Now that's what makes real estate valuable.

That looks simply awesome. Congrats!

Have fun with the final fitting and welding. Doesn't look like you'll be having any problems.

Daryl, As everyone has said, BIG Kudos to your skills and you tenacity.

May I suggest the next time you decide to go this hardcore into the restoration of a car with significant rust, choose an early S rustbucket! It wouldn't be any more work than you've done on the '12 and the upside would be huge! No diss of the '12, I truly love those cars.
