Please help - front ride height keeps settling.

I have re-indexed my front driver's side torsion bar until blue in the face yet the corner keeps settling back at a too low 24.5". I assume if the torsion bar was snapped the front would collapse completely.

When I push the bar in I can feel the inside splines engage. I then mount the adjustment cap almost all the way at the top to have max adjustment for raising. When I let the car off the jack it looks fine at first but one ride around the block and it's back at 24.5". I then turn the adjustment lever almost all the way down but it makes very little difference.

My car is a 78SC with stock torsion bars.

Help - what am I missing?

Ulrich

Have you tried adjusting the ride height bolts attached to the inside of the a-arm?

Let me reword that. You turn the adjuster screw in while the car is off the ground. It then hits the top of the crossbar when you lower the car ans stops the bar from rotatin any further. The only other action from this point forward is the bar twisting, but you don't see that.
