Angry Yet another great little rust spot!

Yet another great little debris catcher! As if Porsche didn’t engineer enough places to catch debris and slowly rust away that German sheet metal we all love here’s another. I went to clean up my battery tray and trunk compartment. I had what I thought was a bit of surface rust in my trunk it tuned out to be reddish dirt. Awesome, it wiped off with a rag. In my cleaning I found a pinhole above the battery where a hose runs to the washer pump (I think). The location is noted with the large arrow. Anyway after cutting away a half dollars worth of sheetmetal I finally got to solid rust free metal. After looking thought the hole I found that the little bracket is basically a shelf for rock, salt, and rust! Luckily it is all surface rust (minus where the hole through the trunk is). At this point I have all of the surface rust wire brushed off. I have treated it, primed it, and undercoated it. I just used a rubber sheetmetal plug in the hole. I figured this is good enough until a complete breakdown and repaint, which I hope is several years away.

I’m really curious if the shelf/bracket on the other side is in the same shape. There is nothing visible from the trunk side. I guess I’m going to have to pull the oil cooler to inspect it.

Yup, I can put a check mark next to that one as well. Noah how did you get yours fixed? Right now I am looking at buying pieces of someones front clip to replace my rusty section. But I would not use the word "little" in conjunction with my rust problem there.

Gotch-ya. I guess the fact that I can disconnect the battery from either inside the trunk or from inside the fender means I might have a little more of an issue than you did. The PO had bondo'ed the area before I bought the car, chalk it up to my stupidity to miss it when I inspected the car.
