1 more buyer question- I think.
These two cars are local and look pretty much the same and the price is pretty close.
Which would you choose? 1983SC 190K with extensive records but may need the tranny worked on for 1st gear. 1981SC 140k with scarce records and nothing showing wrong? Thanks for the help, hopefully I will be posting as an owner before too long, money is ready just careful about picking the right one. Thanks |

I would go with model #1, but I am not much of a gambler.

How about an easy question like what color should I buy. At least that would be within my skill set. Stay tuned for real answers.

How do you know the first car needs tranny work? Have you had the opportunity to drive both cars? While it's nice to have extensive records, the scarce records don't necessarily mean the 2nd car wasn't taken care of properly, either. I'd go with islandman's rec above, too. You could always PPI both cars. Not a waste of $250 if it helps find out an expensive problem in one of the cars.

"crash" nailed it on the head. Make another post about "atlanta pelicans" or something. I'm sure someone would be very happy to go look at the cars with you. Plus you'll make a friend who also probably has a porsche. You'll might even get to drive to look at those cars in another p-car.
Sweet.

As stated many times over...No better money spent that on an experienced PPI mechanic/shop.
Or roll the dice, and cross your fingers...Its your money.

We'll. Are they both 180hp or is one 204hp. I would go for the 204hp (more fun). Keep in mind the tranny won't be cheap to fix. In having said that, I owned a 81 sc with 180hp and damn it could move so maybe that would be fine for you and you wouldn't need to do anything with the tranny that way but it's a bonus if it turns out to be a 204hp. As far as milage goes, well, the sc is bullet proof as long as it's been taken care of. Good Luck.

Just don't screw up like I did and get a major lemon. If I knew what I know now I would have spent alot more and got a better car!

Thanks for the feedback. I checked out the one with the documentation. It will require some work, has oil leaks, it is hard to shift into 1st. The body is SOLID.
The second one on the surface seems like a deal. And now I ran accross a 79 that has caught my eye but costs more than either of the other two. Any major performance loss in a 79 versus 81/83?I searched and somewhat concluded that only ROW cars have more Hp in 79. Thanks. |
