Two questions: One-When i shft to 2nd or 4th it squeaks? Squeals

That seemed a bit odd to me. But there is a squeak/squeal as i pull the selector to 2nd and 4th. Not always in 4th but pretty consistent to 2nd?

Also the RPM's seem to be going higher than they should ...
when i'm in 1st it goes to 5500-6000 really fast, I have been trying to shift into 2nd quicker but often from a stop light I shift to 2nd before I am barely through the intersection. Is that normal? I can get to 60 in 2nd, and third seems to be a long gear too, but 1st is so short? If I drove the car pretty normal with a bit of quick acceleration ithink i'd be always shifting 1 to 2nd at about 5,000 RPM. I do have 17 inch wheels and a 45 series tire. So what do you all think? normal...?

First off, tell us what you are driving.

Thanks.
First gear is pretty short. From what I've been told, first is for leaving the pits only.
It's normal to shift soon. I shift usually around 3000 during normal driving. Up around 6500 when spirited.

The squeal could be a throwout bearing needing attention OR it could be as simple as the shifter rubbing on the plastic "gate" on the shifter housing.
I would suggest to just take a look at the shifter and coupler between the seats. See if you can duplicate the noise when stopped. Maybe a friend could help you. Do you know the service history of the car? How long ago was the clutch replaced?
AS always, check the simple stuff first.

Thanks, I'll check throughthe records. Don't think there was clutch work, but records do not go back that far.
