welcome to thunderdome

To qualify this rant for tech forum I got windshield and seal parts and install for 278.00. Guy did a great job no scratches. While waiting for installler to get to mechanics I had him install low weight high torque starter-I hate it slower than original and sounds like an old mopar starter. definitely getting an original to put back on. I left Santa Barbara at 3:26 p.m. heading for Bakersfield. Around 5:00 p.m. ran into a caravan of drilling rig parts being transported to BAKERSFIELD. I was next to the mud-pit stopped in Filmore when it started poring drilling mud out of the back. Splattered my car's side and polished fuchs. The mechanic in the "caution wide load" truck looked at me so I said something and they just headed out with crap spilling all over the road. I got past them and was bombarded with rocks and tree limbs from the truck ahead that was going 70 in a 55. I had an unpitted wind shield for 1 and 1/2 hrs. Now I have pitted mirrors also and I really don't want to look too closely at the rest of my car. I called the company that was hauling the parts and got their answering service. I will be seeing them in person Monday morning. The freeways in California are so lawless when it comes to commercial trucks. It reminded me of the chase scenes in the mad max movies. Don't get caught going with the flow of traffic because you get this huge ticket and huge fine. If you want to speed drive a truck.

I put in a new windshield seven months ago. The first day I had it, I got three star-shaped dings in the windshield. I decided I'd gotten some kind of cheap-o soft glass (it was $120 installed). But seven months later, there hasn't been any more damage at all.

I think it's some kind of law of nature. Your windsheid is a rock magnet for the first week it's in the car.

maybe all of the time you are getting more of them until it is so pitted you have to do something about it. 11k + posts. good grief!
