Is $40k enough?
So, I have an offer on my 930. I am not really sure that I want to sell it, and I am not sure if the offer is enough.
The car is a 1986 930, 3.4 Liter CIS engine, K27S turbo, Fully ported heads, Group B Cams, Mahle Pistons and Cylenders. The engine and trans have about 9k miles on them. It is a 4 speed, with all new synchro's, racing clutch... etc. The car has RSR Coilovers all the way around, Carbon Fiber Fenders and Wing, Full roll cage, Kinesis K58R wheels, Big Red Brakes... etc. I have around $63k in receipts for the build of the car, not including the price of the 930 itself. All the work was profesionally done, and the car is extremely clean and fast. I received an offer of $40k for the car. I dont really need the money or have any plans to get rid of it. But $40k is a lot of money. Would I be shooting myself in the foot by selling it for this? After all, car included with labor it was a $100,000 build. I am thinking about hanging on to it for a while, but I also dont want to be looking to sell it in the future and have turned down a decent offer. Would you think it would be easy to get that out of the car again in the future? Here are a few pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I guess a simple way to look at it is if you want to trade me 40k for 100k I would take that deal any day. Can you buy a car for 40k that will make you as happy as yours? If so go for it. If not keep your car.

That is one VERY nice ride.
Being in posistions such as yours in the past. Any car i was reluctent to sell...I always wished I had not sold it after it was too late. Maybe if you hab plans for a 996TT or something.. That sounds like a fair offer to me..but I think you will have a hard time replacing your car.

Unless you are in a position that you need to sell it, don't.
Why sell the car for less than .50 on the dollar to someone who will get all the enjoyment out of the car. You obviously built it for your personal taste so get out and drive it.

If you really want to sell it but don't need to do it now and can invest $10k more on it I suggest you make it look like this ![]() Then u put it on ebay with an outrageous buy-it-now price, get a lot of buzz abt the car and voila'.. your car becomes a "special", not just a fast 930, worth top dollars! |

MMMmmm
you need new front and rear bumpers, 11' front and 13' rear flares add ons, welding the flag mirror holes and replace with some Vitaloni, Center lock hubs, BBS wheels at a minimum. Then there is the cage, fire extinguishing system etc. Easily $10k. The devil is in the details. This is why there are cars that fetch $100k and cars that struggle to sell for 50% of costs. Little things make a huge difference. |

How long have you owned the car?
How much did you pay for it? How much did you pay for any modifications after you bought ?

I think what matters is WHY you are thinking of selling it? What is your motivation? Interest in something else? Want to invest the money?
You seem to want advice, but not paint the whole picture. $40k seems a good offer, despite what it took to get to this point in terms of $$. Many buyers don't want modified cars and the mods actually take away from the value of the car. Doug

I really think you should hang onto it. If you don't need the $$$$ then you should enjoy the car for yourself. Sadly, $40K tends to be about what the 930 market is paying when there are mods involved...and that's if you can find a buyer! In the end, however, it's the buyer who will benefit the most.
I think Geoffrey Ring of Racetek engineering had a helluva time selling his well known and sorted 1989 930 (G50 5 speed) with full Motec EFI and a ton of other mods. He needed the $$$$ to fund another project and ended up parting out the car. http://www.racetek-engineering.com/

I havnt had the car all that long. I am one of those guys that got a rediculously good deal due to someone needing the money. I have no reason to sell it other than the fact I got a phone call from a guy who had seen my car at my buddies porsche shop and wanted to give me 40k for it. I was kinda thinking about getting a 993 or somthing, but who knows, I like this car a lot.

I think the car is worth more than 40k wait for the right buyer meaning the buyer that knows what you put into it.

make the guy an outrageous counter offer. you wont feel guilty about selling it and you can get another if you really feel the need. If he turns it down then he really didnt want it that bad and you can enjoy the car without any second thoughts.
