Customizing SC stock 3-spoke steering wheel

Sorry if this has been covered before... I did some searching and could not find anything specific...

I saw a picture of a de-horned sc steering wheel. It actually looks pretty good in my opinion, although it needs finished off with a custom horn button. I have an 83SC and would like a different looking steering wheel, but want to keep it on the cheap for now. Thought I would ask to see if anyone has already done this, and if so, mabye some pics could be posted. If not, I will post mine when I am finished.

One side note, can the steering wheel leather be redyed without fear of rubbing off from use (on your hands that is)? I am not very familiar with leather dye. I would think it should be fine if they use it on seats, but...

I modifyed my SC wheel to use with a Momo hub adapter.

I think the leather dye will come off on your hands

I tried a number of leather dyes on the steering wheel, and the only one that did not rub off was from Leatherique.

Explain where you got the Momo center, trim ring and button and then tell me how this is less than buying a used Momo wheel? I just sold one for $75, but I didn't have the trim ring or screws. Couldn't even get them direct from Momo. They just don't have any (well, screws they had). So, did you sacrifice a Momo wheel to do this? Why? Bigger, is that it?

I did buy a new Momo wheel. It was too small for me. I had a bad A/C joint in my shoulder and with the Momo it was painful to drive. So I made my stock wheel oval to make it wider and built a center for it. Me likey

My problem with Momo's are that they are too small in diameter (for my taste).
I have never seen one bigger than 350mm.
Also the Prototipo look is getting too common.

I wanted a different look than stock for sure.

Nardi's can be a little bigger (360mm) which helps.
I've got a nice vintage Nardi that is super.

Also, I wanted to replicate the wheel you sometimes see on the 74 RSR's.
Using a 74/75 Carrera sport wheel or even taking an SC style 3 spoke wheel and putting a 2nd leather grip on it to make it thicker has been very satisfactory for me.

To mount it on an early car, I have sometimes used a Momo hub, cut off part of the old Porsche wheel, and drilled new holes for installation into the Momo hub.
I'll try to put some pics here this weekend.
