NEED MOTORS (HELP)

I am in need of two 2.7L 6 Cyl (built to RS specs). I am considering Motor Meister. Any input on past experiences? Quality issues?

I personally have had excellent experience with them. I've got cams and a rebuild kit from them. I've been pleased with their service and tech support. What are you going to put the engine in?

I plan on installing them in two 550 spyder replicas I have on order at Vintage Spyders. I just sold one which had a 150hp type 1 motor (VW based). It was pretty quick, but I am now seeking more hp and what better motor to use. I want to keep the engine somewhat period in looks so an RS spec'd 2.7L 6 cyl (carb'd) is ideal for both looks and performance.

Hi Oscar, Here in Brazil they make a good replica of the 550. Nice suspension, but weak motor ( vw beatle ). Question: IS it easy to put a 2.7L in it? And here they are made of fiber, wouldn´t a strong motor transform the car into a killing machine?

MMBRIZIL-

The car I just sold as well as the spyders I am building are fiberglass bodied. And from what I know now I may be the first or second to incorporate 914 trailing arms. I am still evaluating all my engine & suspension options.

Yes...car may end up a little dangerous from being overpowered, but the same can be said about the new 2001 twin turbo. Its all about how its driven and where. I definitely plan on having brakes to match.

Just want to know the HP is there just in case I need it.

I got a 2.2l from MM as part of a 914-6 conversion. The 10-week schedule took about 18 and I have had a few "attention to detail" issues:

>Bolts on clutch pressure plate were to long; causing pressure plate to not seat on flywheel resulting in clutch not working at all at first and then just barley as I maximized every other variable in the clutch systemL. (engine went in and came out five times to fix this, not good for the engine or me!)

>Paint on inner lip of lower valve covers; they looked great outside and in but leaked oil with the painted seeling serfaces!

>Fan housing was just painted over not stripped (has four coats of paint on it )

>Sheet metal was installed quickly and not very well (the five iterations of installation have not been good for it either)

Bottom line is for ten grand I had expected more and did not get it. Support service has been good though. They are quite busy and are a small shop so as the workload goes up quality will go down (you can headge this if you are close and can drop buy every day and micromanage the process! I could not do this living I Texas) but it is like that every where, so my expectations as a consumer may be high. For what its worth I will build up the next one myself, that way I will know it is done to my high standards. I would still buy one of MM's rebuild kits.

(Nobody else cares about your motors as much as you do I often forget this which made the process more Painful than it had to be)
