Anyone see any problems with my custom engine lid?

Just finished fabing a custom decklid from my old SC lid to go on new Carrera Cab. First step in what is to be an interesting project car. Just wanted to show off the fan and give her a little bit of a '50s/60s flavor when the RSK's, spyder and racers seem to show more engine 'leg.' Stainless mesh, rubber trim and powdercoated see-through grill. Anyway, anyone see any cooling or debris issues, etc? Thanks

Wow, cool! Love to see it on the car... Certainly not an expert, but I would think it would only help with cooling because without a spoiler you have a negative pressure zone there...

Thats memorable! You might want to keep the fan belt out of direct sunlight, tho.

Thanks guys... was fairly straightforward to make. Just used the existing grill as a template and did a lot of dremeling. The mesh is a bit tricky to cut, but gives a great look. Why hide all that (futurre) stainless turbo and Incooler plumbing, not to mention painted fan? Part of the beauty of these cars lies in the details of their engines (as we all know)!

probably just an illusion with the wall trim behind the lid, but is the carerra badge on strait? its hard to look at against the kickboard...

I think it looks great, but if it was me, I'd go with all one style of mesh, either the stainless weave or the dots, just for a homogenous look.

All the critiques aside, what did you use to trim the edge of the mesh?

Nice work...!

it would be cool if someone made a fiberglass deck lid that used speedster or rsk type grills. the fab work looks great - how did you edge the mesh screening?

Very cool!

Carrera script is straight - the decklid is at an angle to the floor moulding.

Where did you source the stainless steel mesh? What size is the weave?

Very tasteful mod! I bet that would look great in classic silver with flat black screens.

Interesting.....you often see guys at the track open their rear lid for extra cooling after a session. Wonder about the aero at speed though - you need all the downforce you can get without somekind of tail.

Wink

Nope, will not be driving all that much in the rain (its a cabriolet after all!)

Will, i bought all of the mesh and powdercoated grill in sections from a guy on ebay a year ago. I will see if he is still selling the stuff and pm you if interested.

Plan on posting some shots after mounting so stay tuned.
