Lambda/oxygen sensor
I just replaced my 2.7 with an 81 3.0. I have SSIs with no connector for the Lambda sensor. The mechanic that installed the new motor said I didn't need the sensor. Others say I do.
I get a high speed miss on the track when the motor is hot, i.e., greater than 230. If it stays about 210 it runs great. Could the missing sensor be the cause. If so, where/how do I mount it? Currently, the plug from the "brain" is sitting inside the engine bay. I had an MDS ignition on the 2.7. Would it help on the 3.0? |

I just went thru this with my 83SC, my O2 went bad, took it to the shop, was told I
really didn't need it, they unplugged it. I got conflicting advice on unplugging it, got worried, ordered new one and hooked it back up.I then got the final word on MY car and unplugged it.SOME cars do better without it.The hot miss you have isn't O2 related, more likely plug wire, plug or ignition. |

I replaced the wires, plugs (Bosch Platinum), rotor and distributor cap. No difference.

Do you know whether your mixture is okay? That is, if it has just been set 'by ear' so to speak, then playing wiht the mixture might be interesting. Richen it up a little and go for a spin.
It misses at higher rpms, but will it go there, In other words, does it miss but still go faster. I'm thinking about the fuel pump shutting off at too low and RPM. The 'governor' on your car shuts off the fuel pump I believe. but then I realized that if it is starving for fuel, a plugged fuel line or filter is more likely ------------------ '83 SC [This message has been edited by Superman (edited 09-05-2000).] |

The first suggestion was to richen the mixture. I did that, but it did not seem to help.
If I gradually increase the throttle, it will go to redline; however, if the foot is on the floor (the way you drive on the track), it misses and will never reach redline. But, if it is not hot, i.e., oil temp about 210, it goes with the foot to the floor. |
