SC power window adjustment
The window on the right side of the SC is slow to wind up and down and the window winder motor really labours to wind it. When it's going up it slightly tilts back, like it's too loose in the track and 'digging in' and on the way up it tilts forward. But when it's further down the track it seems quite tight. With the glass near the top I can slide it forwad and back about 10mm and when it's down it doesn't move much.
The Bentley manual, page 640-6, talks about adjusting a couple of bolts, but this is to align the top squarely and this is ok as it is. Any ideas guys? |

Mine does the same thing. I think it's the rubber/felt runners in which the glass glides. They wear out and grsb the glass as it tries to ride through. You can try lubing them for a temporary fix, but they will have to be replaced eventually.

Hi Paul. Thanks for that. Actually I replaced them a few years ago and it didn't help. A spray of silicon helps a bit.
My girlfriend was in Toronto a few weeks ago and loved it. She also went to Port Hope to visit her uncle and had the most fabulous time. |

Bill,
Toronto's really quite a city. I've lived here about 31 years (originally from NY state) and still love it. You should come when it's a lot prettier, though, like spring, summer or October. If you do, look me (and the other local Pelicans) up! BTW, since you've replaced the runners, an adjustment may be in your future. If you open up the door panels, you might want to lube the motor and mechanism, see that it is getting 12v and is running freely.

i dicked with mine for moons and could never get it right, just seemed to move the spot where it hung up around. i finally went to the new felt and what i found was that with the felt out you could really tell where it was misaligned. i centered it with the felt out, reinstalled the felt and it has not given me a problem since.
i know you state you have replaced the felt once already, and i doubt you can get it out and reinstalled too easily, but even if you have to buy felt for that side again i recommend the adjust w/o felt in place. i think the felt is cheaper than a new window motor ![]() my sc is a very early coupe xxx00049 vin number and it's doors are from an earlier run, left overs i suspect from the 77s. that being the case the sc bently describes two or three adjustments points on the door, mine only had one and made the adjustment much more difficult. pull the felt out, center the glass, reinstall felt is the only way if adjustment has not worked up to this point. bill, by the way, just got my shipping confirmation from the land down under that my blundstones have begun their long boat ride over. love those boots! on my 3rd pair now T$

Re: SC power window adjustment
Quote:
The passenger side window on my '77 S went up and down really slowly since I bought the car, until the other day - when it didn't go up and down at all... Ohming it out showed the expected connections all present - couldn't get the motor to move providing a ground for it either... When I removed them, both passenger switches looked brand new, whereas the driver's window switch looks original... I just finished swapping in a replacement window motor and lubing the regulator etc. That was fun! Window goes up and down just fine now. The motor I took out doesn't move at all when you connect it directly to the battery terminals... So the motors can eventually die, although it seems like your car may have something mis-aligned or dislodged internally as well; might have two issues, or it could be just a misalignment. Good luck!

Thanks Guys.
That sounds fun Paul. We talked about going back sometime before long. I was raving about NY state and NYC and my GF is keen to drive through all those cool towns from Buffalo to NYC also. Same with you guys coming to New Zealand. Removing the felt is a good idea. The motor has plenty of power its just not tracking well. And the passenger side is even worse. I don't even use it as the drag has pulled the glass out of the bottom a few times and I hate putting it back ![]() So blundstones are good. I'll have to look for some. |
