Replacing valve stem seals 3.2
Has anyone replaced the valve guide (stem) seals on a 3.2 with the heads on the engine? I have the tools for removing the springs using compressed air, just want to do the seals at the same time. There is a tool sold for removal of the seals, but they all say 'not for 911'. Is a special tool for the seals needed? Any suggestions??? Thanks.

What makes you think the Teflon seals are the problem? There are reports of valve guide problems on 3.2's, so if 'true' oil consumption is a problem, you may need a top-end job and new valve guides. Of course you would need to eliminate any leaks before deciding if you really do have a consumption problem.

Thanks for your reply Warren. I have just purchased this car and don't have any real 'consumption numbers' yet. Up until this past weekend I would get a tremendous cloud of smoke on startup. Much more than the 2 3.0 SC's I've owned. A mechanic tested or checked the valve stem movement and said the guides did not seem (or sound) worn and his conclusion was the seals. Now, using my Bentley manual I traced all fuel and vaccuum lines and found that the crankcase ventilation through the oil tank was not even connected! After hooking everything up as it should be the car runs perfect and the smoke at startup has been reduced to just a small puff. My question about the seals was just to see if it would be worth doing just that for the time being since the engine has to come out for a few days anyway. Thanks.
