3.2 engine 930 trans SWB
I know a 3.2 will fit in a swb but will it bolt directly to 930 transmission? I realize there is a short and a long bell housing version of the 930 trans. Will a 3.2 work with the long one and if so will if fit in a swb? I know the space between the seats will need to be cut but does the torsion bar tube need modification? I just looking for a bulletproof way to get the power down. I realize that a 915 will take the power of a stock 3.2 but i am looking to increase the power in the future. Did a search but couldn't find anything.

not sure it would work and why would you want a 4spd when you can have a 5spd? a 7:31 915 would be the best trans for this application and is a basic bolt in (a few mods, but it has been done many times). You could also run the 901 with some work on it to make it stronger. I think they used the 901 trans in the 911R and it had over 200 HP so if your 3.2 is a US version then you should be fine with the 901 as long as you don't try and burn rubber all the time.

I'd go with a 8:31 915 much stronger, they can handle anything a street 3.2 can dish out. The 901's had weak ,not so good with bigger motors.

well i first thought about just swapping in a 915 but decided that my i want it to be able to take the power of later upgrades (possible turbo...). I realize everyone will now tell me i am being foolish for ruining a "rare" car , but what is the point in buying a car if you can't have fun with it. So please no negative comments on my decision as i have heard it many times before. Anyway is it possible for the 3.2 with a 930 trans to fit in a SWB car without torsion bar tube modification???

If a 915 will fit I don't know why a short bell housing 930 tranny won't. Some of the swaps require a little work on the trans tunnel. The Torsion bar tubes were all the same until the G50 came along.

You don't need a 930 trans, it won't even work well with a low powered 3.2L engine. As a matter of fact they don't work well with low powered (stock) 3.3L 930 engines either. You have to make greater than 350HP before you can use the long gears of a 930 tranny.
Besides the bad gearing a 915 will take a modded 3.2L with no problem due to the relatively low torque output of the engine. Now if you add a turbo it's a different ballgame.........
