replacing turn signal switch

has anyone done one of these? do you have to take off the steering wheel to get access?
Also wondering how to remove that bloody "shell" around the steering column.

Yes you have to get all the way down inside the steering column....it is not real easy until it is disassembled, then it is all plugs....I just did mine. I have an extra swirch if you need one....

Mike if you did yours recently and you have an extra switch ,did you find the problem was other than the switch?
I just took delivery on a new switch and there are about 5 or 6 different plug ins. How much time should be allowed, any recommendations, I plan to do it this weekend with Bentley as a resource.
Thanks

Once you get the steering wheel off, it's very easy. All of the wires are color coded, and will match the existing wires. Just note how the old wires are routed and where they plug in. I think I did it all in less than an hour, with just the old wiring as a guide.

I've heard of some people trying to fix the switch, but if it's bad IMHO you are better off replacing it. Also, pull the fuses for all of the lights, (turn signals, parking lamps, high and low beams) and use a test lamp to verify that everything is working right.
